How much land should there be in a landscape image? How much foreground is necessary before we see a DNMC?

Why are my best pictures shot at the wrong time?

What is an "expressive" portrait? "Expressive" as in what? |
The best part is they are processed according to advanced rules.
It does not hurt that they are both easy to do and allow maximum creativity. Both are going to get a lot of great submissions.

Not suggesting you don't do it because a great image deserves a great score, but getting cutsy with the crop will hurt you. Using standard landscape and portrait aspecting is almost a prerequisite.

What is "standard" ? 4x3 or 3x4? Will other proportions still be OK? |

Ahhhhhhh... that is for the rest of us to know and you to screw up. We wanna win. LOL!
Besides, you know as soon as I say one thing there will be 10 people disagree. That is part of the joy of DPC.

OK... maybe it will help if I goad everyone else...
All right, people, MY definition of a proper aspecting ratio for landscape and portrait is the RIGHT one.
Go ahead, make my day! Disagree.

I'd say go with the one you can produce without cropping. So it depends on what camera you've got.

I got lucky. The world's bestest model was visiting my area yesterday for about 5 hours and I shot until my camera was smoking! I hadn't seen him/her for over a year, so it was a nice surprise. That said... I'm in portrait... imagine that! :D

You must have had a nicer day there than we had here. It was overcast, rainy, and hot and humid and miserable. |

We had killer clouds all day but lots of blue as well. I guess the 75 miles between us made alot of difference.

Wow, Cindi... I know you had not seen this person in a while but after 5 hours you'd think you might figure out if they were male or female. LOL!!!!!
(Just kidding... we go overboard on this anonymity thing sometimes)

Ya know, I HATE when she does this to me, but Jutilda influenced me to take some 'portrait' landscapes yesterday late... Here is one I WON'T enter.
It wouldn't pass the "Its not a REAL landscape" criteria anyway. LOL!!!
