.

Does an image of landscape imply a wide angle and distance? Would a closer and tighter shot be considered landscape if it contained about land? (e.g. tight shot of a hillside, tight shot of trees, tight shot of a lake shore [like the wave line along the shore], tight shot of a sand dune, etc.)?

As a voter, would you be turned off by a tighter/closer shot?

Just curious.

Edit: I know the landscape image has to be displayed in portrait orientation but does that still imply a wide angle?

All right, DrAchoo, what about this super secret new photography site you visited? You work in Photoshop all weekend? LOL!

Like this image... great balance and detail and it makes a nice toned shot. Of course there are those that would say since there is no ground that it could not be a 'Land'scape. Reminds me of a semi-similar sot I had in the "in the garden" challenge. It got nixed to but still did fine.

Given that... go ahead, submit it.. It should be a top finisher...

Oh, wait, wait... you already showed it to us. Dang! Can't submit now. That would be wrong. You'd be accused of cheating. Cheater! Cheater! Cheater!! Too bad, it was a sure fire blue winner. Oh, well, back to the ol' drawing board. LOL! LOL!

I was thinking about entering this photo into the landscape challenge but this thread has definitely scared me away from that, and now i'm worried about the portrait i am submitting because the subject isn't holding a knife in her hand...oh the pains of dpc. anyway this isn't a landscape really anyway but I thought I'd share.

It reminds me of a natural kaleidoscope

I'd love to join the trash talk, but I need Canon to return my freaking camera first. =) Oh well, I'm excited to see all your entries!

you can all put your cameras away and unsubmit your photos for the landscape in portrait because this week is my turn at the top.

I say yes. Sometimes with multiples, it can get the "snapshot" sense, but a portrait of a family, or more than one person can do well if done artfully. As far as parameters, I think if it looks like a rectangle, and is considerably wider than tall, you're ok.
10/28/2006 09:35:06 PM · #7
So, are there any parameters for "portrait"? Can it be multiple people or a full body shot?

Ahhh, the stuff dreams are made of. Then I can talk trash to YOU rather than the other way around...

Can I go???

Ya know, I HATE when she does this to me, but Jutilda influenced me to take some 'portrait' landscapes yesterday late... Here is one I WON'T enter.

It wouldn't pass the "Its not a REAL landscape" criteria anyway. LOL!!!

For sure: it is a too nice shot to be "real", Steve.
But actually it would be DQ - it has a text on it... lol.

Wow, Cindi... I know you had not seen this person in a while but after 5 hours you'd think you might figure out if they were male or female. LOL!!!!!

(Just kidding... we go overboard on this anonymity thing sometimes)

You must have had a nicer day there than we had here. It was overcast, rainy, and hot and humid and miserable.

We had killer clouds all day but lots of blue as well. I guess the 75 miles between us made alot of difference.

What is "standard" ? 4x3 or 3x4? Will other proportions still be OK?

I'd say go with the one you can produce without cropping. So it depends on what camera you've got.

Ahhhhhhh... that is for the rest of us to know and you to screw up. We wanna win. LOL!

Besides, you know as soon as I say one thing there will be 10 people disagree. That is part of the joy of DPC.

But that's exaclty what I wanted to see... all people jumping in with their own "perspectives" lol. And I agree, this is fun!

OK... maybe it will help if I goad everyone else...

All right, people, MY definition of a proper aspecting ratio for landscape and portrait is the RIGHT one.

Go ahead, make my day! Disagree.
