Okay, so I love this shot I took in Amsterdam this year but this is one of those that just has me stumped. Don't quite know what to do with it, I know it's not perfect but it was one of those moments I couldn't pass by. Anyone want to take a stab at this one, I have the original full sized file I can email to ya. I'd appreciate any help with this as it's a special shot to me.
Thanks!

What part of this is special to you... anything in particular in the shot that you want to stand out?

the woman is the most important part of the shot to me. I like the wood also of the church interior. Thanks! |

I don't remember exactly what I did, and I'm not sure that either is an improvement... just kept playing around mostly and figured I might as well post the results. Some burning of the highlights, dodging of the darker areas, changed to tritone and played with the levels/curves of the colors. For the 2nd shot, I added the gothic glow action. |

Very sloppy (only spent 5 minutes) Just to present you with the ideas of a different crop, Darker top half, brighter low half, dodged lady, USM. Just to spark some ideas.

Similar idea to jrjr, just an even tighter crop to put more emphasis on the woman while keeping some of the wood. Applied curves and levels adjustments to bring out the contrasts more but not blow out the whites.

I thought that the pillars really added to the picture so I guess I emphasized them. I didn't spend much time on this, so sorry if it is a disgrace!

Thanks everyone, they all look great. I had never even thought to crop it, but it does bring it a whole new look getting rid of the columns. Daboardergirl's black and white emphasizes the columns - this is what is great about this site, sometimes you need fresh eyes to see what you're missing.
Anyone else? |

Prism's idea of a crop does look good.
Here's something I came up with. Mostly color/contrast corrections and tried to subdue some of the overexposed areas.
edit:
Now that I take another look at my try, think it might be to contrasty.

I think part of the pop you are looking for may be hard to gain since the woman is in the shadows.
The lighting just wasn't cooperating for this composition if trying to put focus on the lady.

Black and white, color, and something a little darker.

Darker is probably the way to go given the noise problems but here's what I came up with
