My Free Study is doing as I expected.. over 5 is ok by me... I don't really care about a score as I said before, its a personal photo and I didn't edit the hound out of it like most would expect to see in expert editing.

I like expert editing, but with minimal and advanced you can shoot anything and then edit it accordingly, but with expert I feel you have to shoot something (even several if you plan to HDR) with the purpose of expert editing in mind before shooting.

I have a question, I might need to ask SC, but I will pose it to the team first If they are going to vote monitor, and say we can't vote on our teammates images, then how can we avoid voting on the image if we have not seen it? So this rule is Meant for us to share within the team? Opinions?

well as a programmer, i can tell you this much,

say we have the following scenario:

-challenge 1 you give me a 8,9,10
-challenge 2 you give me a 8,9,10
-challenge 3 you give me a 8,9,10
-challenge 4 you give me a 8,9,10
-challenge 5 you give me a 8,9,10

there is something wrong :) they track you down !

if every now and then you vote high for one of my images, i think that's normal but consecutive times that will be highly unlikely.
i am sure they are using a similar algorithm:)

hope that was helpful:)

2 votes ago it was in 6.3488 :)

I was submitting to the symmetry challenge but I'm not that happy about the photo but I have to study since I'm taking an exam tomorrow morning and the time here is 21:24 now.

Is the 4th May confirmed as the startdate of the DPL ?

This a copy of the last announcement by langdon in the season 5 WPL:

Some of these questions have been answered already, but I thought I'd give this thread a little bump. Please excuse any typos and feel free to ask for clarification. Also, feel free to ask any other questions that may have not yet been answered.

Question #1

jdannels: When are sign-ups? Is that May 1st?

EstimatedEyes: How long are you thinking the sign up period will be ... If May 1 is the first sign up date, when are you thinking the season will start?

Answer: When the season is announced (likely Monday, May 7th), the Free Agent Pool will be open to all, and previous-season participants will be given the opportunity to recreate their teams in the new system for the first two days. After the two day "invitational" sign-up period is over, the team creation system will then be open to all for the final 5 days of the first week. Upon "rollover" of the first week, all "finalized" teams (teams that have at least 5 team members who have accepted team invitations) will be placed into one of two leagues, one of four conferences within those leagues, and one of the numerous divisions within those conferences. The challenge announced after rollover will be the first challenge that kicks off the new season.

Question #2

freakin_hilarious: Will the running total of finalized teams be visible? Say for example there are 71 teams signed up 10 min before sign-ups are closed. We could all badger the DPC community at that point to create one more team so the other 23 that would otherwise be dropped can play.

Answer: Absolutely! The list of actual teams that have made the cut already during sign-ups may or may not be public, but the count certainly will be.

Question #3

Cutter Will you be handicapping teams?

yanko What I wouldn't mind seeing is an "average" cap. ... This would require a new stat however as using the average vote received stat is very deceiving as it doesn't reflect how a photographer is doing.

Answer: We discussed having a cap on team average, but the first season won't have any sort of restrictions. Past precedent would suggest that it's not yet necessary. Hopefully, there will never be a need, as it would be a shame to break up teams from season-to-season simply due to high averages.

Also, due to efforts over the last few months with statistics, I currently have 30-day and 6-month received averages being calculated. The free agent pool will likely show these statistics, and ideally a future photographer statistics page. Teams will be seeded into divisions using these averages.

Question #4

JawnyRico: I also would like what I need to do to join a team. Heard a lot about WPL, but never been sure of what it is. Is it like a photo a week thing, and how do you join up? Is there another website you go to. Thanks in advance.

Rooster Just not sure how to go about being drafted onto a team. How does one do this?

Answer: Your best bet right now would be to either contact some people on the site privately about creating a team together, or putting yourself out there in the forums to let people know you're interested in getting a team together.

My hope is that some photographers will try to sell themselves exclusively through the the Free Agent system and that some team captains will reserve a spot or two on their team for pulling a random user from the free agent pool.

If you join the Free Agent pool, you'll be listed amongst the others as "actively seeking a team" and you can be invited to join multiple teams.

Question #5

sher: we'll still be able to post in the regular "Side Challenges & Tournaments" threads, though, won't we? the good natured banter and trash talking is really the most fun for me. i'd hate not to be able to do that anymore.

Answer: Yes, the existing Side Challenges and Tournaments forum will still be open for this type of public discussion. The private thread will exist so that each team can stay organized by discussing scores, trading advice on new entries/ideas, or just using it for motivational-type chatter.

Question #6

TCGuru: So, here is my question for the FAQ: HOW ARE TEAMS FORMED?

jpfrandano: What is the current process for creating a new team for Season 5? Do I have to wait until the integration with DPC is complete?

Answer: We'll have a team creation page, where upon rollover, the team captain can go in and (1) name the team, (2) upload a logo (currently only 120x120 JPGs), and (3) invite all team members (by typing in their usernames or inviting them from the free agent pool). Once the team is saved, invitation emails will be sent out to all team members. At least 4 team members will need to accept the invitation in order for the team to be "finalized" and reserve a spot in the next season.

Question #7

metatate: Will there still be an MVP? â€Â¦ of DPL? Will that person get a .GIF. I want that GIF!!!

Answer: There will definitely be some sort of lovely GIF given to the winning team, and lots of statistics all around, though no MVP listing/selection is confirmed for the first season right now.

oh yeah i read that one, but i don't think they made it at may 1.

"When the season is announced (likely Monday, May 7th)"

so it's not until next week, so everyone better warm up :)

we made it to 1st round of playoffs last season, we should shoot for better!

It seems to me that May 7 starts the "draft and signing period" I'm assuming that there will be some time before the actual start of the season.

It was specifically said that it would be against the rules for a DPL team member to vote on another members entry... meaning Any vote. Voting not allowed at all. I wonder how they plan on working this? I know of two teams that do what I proposed earlier in the thread.. so I dunno... I'm sure it will all come out with the launch of the new DPL. I enjoy the critique I get from friends and family before entry, I think its what is helping me grow (and my scores).

I'm sure it will be clarified before the start of the season.

I haven't been following the DPL rules too closely, but I'd be happy to help with some pre-voting critiques for the team if I have the time! I think if you would upload them to your workshop folder, you can share the link to it via a PM. I haven't been doing much voting lately, but even if I would vote, I'd be sure not to vote on the ones I'd seen from the team!

And just a reminder, especially to the new folks on the team, that you can also work on your editing skills by participating in the PPC - Post Processing Challenge. I know zaflabout and I have both entered a few times over there... it's an interesting twist to challenges!

I have a shot in the free study (at a 6.0), and I forgot how addicting the update button is! :P

Not the greatest score, but my best yet on the free study! The disappointing part is the complete lack of comments - for better or for worse. :oP

I've got about a 6 and only one comment. I think the free studies, with their large #s scare alot of people away....

Just about 4 hours to go.. :)

zaflabout ! You are the sign-up man right... We don't need to do anything but accept your offer in joining the team, right ?
05/06/2007 09:22:09 PM · #673
Well, it looks like part of the whole league aspect while it's being run through DPC, is that you are encouraged to discuss your entry with your team members. You won't be able to vote on their entries, just like you can't vote on your own.
Looks like you'll get your own private forum thread to discuss entries, so that others can't be peeking and cheating. I'll still be around to cheer you guys on though, even if I can't chat in your thread! :)
