Hi guys! I appreciate the kind words, but I'm just afraid I won't have enough time to get something in every week, and I don't want to leave you with a pile of zeros! If you really can't find a replacement member, I'll be happy to stay on the roster and enter as much as I can, but I'd rather root you on this time around if that's possible!

Oh, and welcome to the team aerogurl! I love that owl shot in your portfolio (I'm partial to owls)!

Thanks Melanie. I LOVE going to the Carolina Raptor Center, its about 15 minutes from my home. All the raptor shots in my portfolio were taken with my point and shoot with a telephoto lens on, so I really need to get out there with my new D50 and get some better and sharper shots! Again, Thanks for the welcome and I hope we get to compete together next DPL or whenever the future permits.

Hello everybody

I̢۪m happy to be the new member of D50 team

My name is Ralitza

I received my first camera when I was 7.
Took plenty of pictures during my childhood and teenage years.

Then for a long period stayed a bit away from photography – apart from taking family and child pictures.

I bought a my D50 DSLR last June. And think made quite of a progress for this months

Looking ahead for further progress as a member of the team

And of course for a lot a fun

I'm in the Bubbles II challenge.. I started shooting at 9:30pm, took an hour long distance phone call, edited and submitted it, all before midnight... it was right down to the wire.. Haven't ever done that before, and won't be doing it again..

Same here. Busy at work so Team D50 is the perfect excuse to get out and shoot.

kitchenware for me, it's been a 6 for the past 2 days,

today it dropped to 5.875, 16 comments thought,

and that was really really a last minute submission (started shoting @ 11:30, finished at 11:45, pped and submitted by 11:58!), if i had more time for pp it would have been a totally different score.
oh well , that's what you get for getting inspired very late :)

I started a thread a while back about starting a DPL team but no one seemed committed enough for my liking. There were things I wanted to accomplish by starting a new team and now since I have joined D50, I wanted to propose my ideas to the group. Remember, with the new SC tools we won't be voting on each others images in challenges, so everything I propose is legal and ethical.

The essence of my idea is Team Communication. To chat and show our images either to the group (as in a forum, either a DPC supplied private Team D50 Thread [which they are discussing for the new DPL], or making our own forum/chatroom) and/or individually (as in instant messaging chats with one or more members, email, etc), so that we can (if we want) discuss entries before challenges or just be there for each other in general for processing tips, etc.

With the new tools the SC have implemented to keep us from "friend voting" or voting for our teammates, this leaves us open to utilize our relationship as a team and help us all become better photographers. I in no way plan to or want anyone to cheat, go against the spirit of DPC or do anything they do not personally want to do. But I know for a fact this already existed before the WPL (hence the "friend voting" crackdown) and I think anyone who doesn't seek and/or take advice from others are at a disadvantage.

I am here to become a better photographer, to raise my average score, etc.. winning a make believe ribbon is a great affirmation of my work, but I am here to learn, and if I can, be learned from.

When I mentioned this before I got feedback from other members. I am only seeking opinions in this thread from my teammates, anyone else should PM me.

i can tell you how we did it before. we never saw each other entries:)

what your suggesting is ethical on the basis that none of us will vote on the challenge we are competing in.
why?
simply because i have in mind what my team pictures will ook like, hence i might not vote on those, but i might be harsher on others that approach a similar concept.

accordinly io personaly DO NOT vote in challenges i am in, this i avoid any misunderstunding with the SC.

now the problem is this,
three weekly challenges
say everyone of us submit to different ones, that means none of us can vote in any challenge, that's very bad if you ask me.

what i suggest is this, we did it with the first team D50 in WPL3
we used to give pp tips to each other but on picture NOT participating in challenges just to learn.

per say, i went to a park, i got a nice shot of a tree and a nice shot of a cabin there. in both of these the sky is the major element, you want to bring it out, you are not sure how, you like the tree more, but you are sure that we won't recognize the house is yours, you can ask us how to fix that one and then learn to modify the others.

in other words, you can ask about an independent photo, TOTALLY not related to the one you are submitting, but one that require similar processing techniqe.
a better example, IR, you are not sure how to do it , you take a shot of anything and you can ask how to fix it, we'll show you , then you can go and take whatever shot you want and fix it the way you want, the knowledge has been passed, no damage was done , and everyone is happy:)

i hope put things in a better perspective for everyone. of course i am more than open to discussion about this topic from the rest of the team.

cheers,

PS: i must add we all want to improve, and thanks to DPC i learned more than i could have ever imagined about photog:) and hopefully this WPL we will all kick some A**, Go TEAM D50!

I think you have misunderstood. We can vote on any challenge we want, whether we enter it or not. What SC means is that we can not vote on each others individual submissions to any challenges, not that we can not vote on an entire challenge just because we or our teammate entered it. In other words, "no voting on images you have seen prior to entry". Say I enter "kitchenware", you can vote on all images in that challenge except my image, per current rules.

The whole "friend voting" thing has opened a whole new door for DPC. Now that we can not vote on our friends or team mates images, discussing them is not forbidden. I think its a good thing. I'm glad SC got these tools and are able to track our voting. I've been a member here for 4+ years, I have seen this site grow, and this is just another direction its heading in. This makes it so that we CAN help each other, why shouldn't we?

I am very happy to discuss ANY image, be of any help, discuss any PP tips, etc.. Just msg me :)

my kitchenware entry ended with a 6, and now my tryptich is at 6.28 ,after the first phase of bad voting :) so i am expecting this to go up. i am taking a risk with my free study let's see how it goes.

how are you guys doin?

Bubbles II
Avg Vote: 5.7460 (anything better than my personal average is good to me, still wish I had been inspired earlier and not entered in a rush)

Triptych II
Avg Vote: 6.3902

I had a 6.7 last night in Triptych, I just knew I would wake up to a 5.xx but only went down a few tenths. woohoo :) I am looking forward to Free Study, and NOT AT ALL for the scoring, because I am sure it won't do that well... but its a image thats very personal to me :)
