Thanks for responding, Dexter! :o)
I also speak Spanish - my grammar isn't so hot, though...I'm working on it. I grew up speaking French (as you can probably tell by my name) and that helped immensely with my Spanish. I learned it while backpacking through Central America, myself, actually! Where all did you go? |

Nice! I spent almost 2 months in Guatemala alone, and the rest of the 6 weeks were spent in Belize and the Yucatan in Mexico. |

Hi guys... great to meet all of you!
Name: Melanie
Age:31
Current location: Upstate NY
Eye color: Brownish-green
Hair color: Brown
Height: 5'4"
Where were you born? Pennsylvania
Do you have any pets? A tuxedo cat (Mieko) and if you count a class pet I have a rabbit too (Midnight)
What do you do for a living? Kindergarten teacher
What is your dream job? Lucky for me, I'd have to say kindergarten teacher :)
Do you play any instruments? Used to play clarinet way back when, but nothing currently
Other than photography, what are your hobbies? Computer stuff, hiking, camping
Would you ever skydive or bungee jump? Sometimes I think it would be incredibly cool to do, but realistically I know I'd probably never have the guts to do it
Describe yourself in five words. Hard working, patient, perfectionist, logical, shy
Do you daydream? About what? Sure, nothing exciting though.
What kinds of books or magazines do you read? Mostly books related to teaching/education... and I get to read tons of picture books to the kids at school, but they probably don't count.
Favorite genre of music? I'll listen to pretty much any genre, as long as it's not extreme. I prefer female vocals... probably because I sing along too loudly in the car.
Have you ever performed on stage? Back in high school I was in theater... but nothing beyond that.
Shy or outgoing? Shy.
Truth or dare? Depends on the question? :)
Cats or dogs? Cats
Sweet or salty? Sweet!
Do youâ€Â¦.
Smoke? Nope
Drink? A little sometimes
Like to travel? Sure, but I don't seem to go anywhere very exciting :(
Sing well? I sing well enough for a group of 5 year olds.. and that's about all.
Have/want kids? Just my students for now... someday I'd like kids of my own though!
I don't speak any other languages, and I'm probably one of the most un-coordinated dancers ever :P
And, the big brown truck came today delivering my 50mm f1.8 lens with a reversing ring for macro shots. :)

Good Morning, folks(afternoon for many of you). It's been a few weeks since I first posted here, and just wanted to report on my progress. I've now entered four challenges, and my results have been mixed. I started out great with a 20th place finish in Shallow Depth of Field III, but have been heading the wrong direction ever since! My Street Photography photo got hammered, and my Low Key photo did even worse. My Red photo right now is somewhere between my Street and Low Key photos.
The good thing is that I'm getting out, and taking more pictures. Also, I've learned so much more about my camera. I'm hopeful that with time I'll figure out what will do well here, but maybe that's not that important.
I was soooo disappointed with my Low Key result, because I really thought that I had nailed it. It's actually one of my favorite photos. From a couple of the comments, it appears that monitor calibration could be a big issue here.
I enjoy reading all of your posts. There are some very interesting people here with quite varied backgrounds.
Cheers!
Tom

Wheee!!! Found the perfect props & costumes today for both circle and crossdress. This is me grinning: ----> :oD |

Well, I have one in for circle, but I'm not really fond of it. I also have a shot in for Time, and that one I'm pretty pleased with. Took it with the new 50mm and reversing ring.
My favorite kind of photography? I like macros, and shots with shallow dof and nice blended backgrounds. I like nature photography too.. landscapes or critters, but haven't been out much lately to do any of that. |

I have one in for circle...not at all what I had planned. The weather just wasn't cooperative. :o? Its alright...should be a prett average score, though, methinks. I got mad frustrated, reshot it 4 separate times...still not quite what I was visualizing. :oP |
