Don't get used to this, I don't do them often :-P
Comments are welcome. Alan wants to get into modeling, so a friend of mine talked me into helping him out.
Big problem I had, since I am soo used to working with female models, was to make him look studly and not gay.

Maybe you should stick to dudes, that series looks great!
Side note: I find the models "Eyebrows" distracting! He should trim them up a bit..

I agree! The sunglasses and the eyebrows both need to go. I really like the b&w. Also, the one with the partially open white shirt does look gay. Other than that, great job!

Great job on all Leroy - I like the b/w one best. The white pants to me say gay more than studly

When a photographer tries to make them pose in a way that he would a woman. Fortunately, I had two ladies with me to tell me if I was encroaching on "gay".

Whats wrong with looking Gay?
Why not have the model appeal to both sexes?

There's nothing wrong with looking gay. Some of my best friends are gay. But if you are trying to appeal to the ladies, they don't want gay.

If the subject is aspiring to be a model then he shouldnt worry about it.
And I also agree with Laurie, "How does one look gay?", comeon!

Not to sound homophobic or anything... but everyone knows the stereotypical "gay" mannerisms.
Typically, they are over-exagerated female mannerisms.
In such, the poses that would make a woman look very feminine would make a man look very gay.

Are you going to tell me you can look at Boy George and not go "gay", just by looking?

Well I didnt see your model with a limp wrist and smoking a Virgina Light 120, so you/he shouldnt worry-- (stereotypically speaking) :) |

And to add this thread is getting way off-topic, lets keep it to comments on Leroys pics and not views on sexuality-- (guilty) |

sorry but IMO it's the model that makes the difference btwn gay and not gay... not the photograph. perhaps he could use a little more stubble... women like stubble.... think McDreamy.... |

B&W is awesome. Some of the shots make him look like he has major badass attitude...I don't find that sexy or attractive at all so I don't care for those shots... The B&W shows a nice body with no attitude. I think that is why I like it.
The brows are pretty darn thick. |

In a way,I suppose it depends on what Leroy's model is 'selling'. Is it clothing? Looking for a date?
In any event, I'm really suprised to see so many "stereotypical gay comments" in this thread. Thought we'd moved beyond that here.
As someone once said, "okay, now back to your regularly scheduled programing." |

Photographically speaking most of these images look terrific and very professional.
I imagine that the intended target audience would find him appealing (guess I'm not part of that audience, sorry).
Good job, Leroy! |

Sorry if I offended anyone with my comment. It seemed to be what Leroy was asking about, whether or not his model looked studly. Other than that, I commented on which image I liked best.

I have two cents if you care to hear them...
My opinion is that his face is kind of squinched up to be a model (which obviously isn't his fault). He doesn't strike me as a model in the traditional sense as far as his facial features are concerned. Although perhaps thinning the eyebrows, as others noted, would help him out some. I agree that the glasses have to go. Better to be barefoot on the pier; the boots look out of place. Photo-wise, the shirtless one on the pier has great color. The sepia tone has possibilities.
I guess my main qualification to critique these is being female... And as a female, none of these really make me want to look at this guy some more. He does have a nice body and I probably wouldn't mind looking at that, but I'm not into his face. I agree about the white pants... Maybe go khaki? I've never been a big fan of hairy armpits, just like I don't want to see the typical guy's hairy arse.
Try a sleeveless undershirt on this guy? Put his face in strong shadow? Showcase those pecs and abs, and strong backs are sexy too! Get him drunk and then have your female assistants tell him to get sexy? :) |
