I've been looking at //www.portfolios.com and am thinking of setting up an account there. Are any of you members, and do you have any success or horror stories to share?

cool link mcrael...please repost your experiences if you do it, I'd love to know how it goes...and from what it looks like, I might try the free one just to see how it goes myself.

for the 499.00 per year it costs, you would be better off just making your own web site.

You will also get more than a 20 pic allowance and have thousands. All for about a 1/3 of the cost.

Prob be faster too - and look nicer.

i agree with you on the platinum membership jon - way not worth it by any stretch - but I think that I'll try out the free membership, can't hurt at all to put up your best/favorite 5 pics...who knows might get picked up.

The reason I'm considering this site is to make my photos available for commercial use. The site masters do extensive advertising to attract high-end clients. I'm not able to achieve the same sort of advertising with my own site at //www.literalexpressions.com (which I've just updated today).

BTW: this site is good for writers, web designers, and graphic designers too.

Are you sure? and what makes you think they will see your work once at the site? There are a lot of others there too.

I would stick with your site - add some MetaTags,a description and so forth, and sooner or later google will pick it up and you will start to get more traffic than you ever will via an 'agency' site.

But you have to give it time, I only get a few hundred people viewing my work each day, but my site //www.fuci.co.uk has only been up a year, but thanks to that, in the last 3 weeks alone I have been commsioned to do band photography & business photography seperatly by 2 very different clients; when I never even advertsied myself as a photographer.

Go figure the power of the net eh!

Good luck with your site, and if you can, stick your web address in as many places as possible. Under your tag, on others web sites and so forth - this gets it indexed much quicker.
