i have a bunch of black and white shots to pick from. I could even grab a spot shot out of the bunch but I am debating which direction to go. headwear still sounds boring to me. But I do have 3 kids with tons of hats.

OK, I'm going to pretend I didn't enter these two challenges.....focus on next weeek.
I have two, IMHO great, shots for Black and White. I have one or two processing tweaks to make, then choose. They were accidental, so based on how when I try hard I fail I reckon these stand a good chance of scoring well....close but no ribbon.
I'm going to keep it simple for headware or spot. I'll see what I have ready for Tuesday night ;-) |

took 50 or so B&W shots at noon today / reviewed them briefly ('bout 5-10 bin'ed immediately)
now for post proc & fiddling .. at least 3 good ones ;) so far ..
and now contemplating 'spots' & what it means to me ..
hmmm my guess there will be:
with a single spot on their nose & a cross eye'd look ,
lady bugs,
spotted faces
etc ..
need something different ..

Here is the shot I was going to use for my free study it was taken about 5 minutes before the one I used,
How would have all of you scored it?

to be totally honest.. its nice and colourfull but not straight and has no focal point of interest (what is it a photo of) my honest score not knowing of cause it was yours would be a possible 5. sorry it sounds harsh but we are here to be honest to each other as a team. Subject is important especially here at DPC, voters like eye candy and beautifull subject matter. i hope the shot you USED is not similar to this one because it would not be fair to openly discus it in the forums.. try to get a shot that has something special in it (im STILL trying to do this) have a look through previous challenges and see what kind of photography wins the ribbons, or just ask Ursula she has loads.
good luck buddy
edited to say NOW I remember your shot in the free study.. WAY better than this one dude the shot you entered was smoking.. you was robbed mate.. keep up the good choices

I assume you're talking about Free Study XIV (14)? I Think your entry blows this out of the water, however I'm assuming that the outtake isn't 100% processed?
Like MAK said, there's no focal point. Nothing to take me through the image. I'd have scored 5.
You nailed your entry and personally gave it a 7 in voting!

i expected a low vote for mine placing a 564/618 but dpc is not a place for political pictures ;) |

I finally got my B&W shot in. I was really starting to sweat this one as I just couldn't come up with something that I liked. Now its time to kick some untouchable butt.

I had a black and white submitted a couple of days ago, yesterday I decided to use a different one. I still haven't a shot for the open challenges.
anyone else going to try the HDR Speed Challenge? I am going to give it a try.

shot a few HDR today ..probably submit ... though just dumping images now
been a dull day so i'm not sure that the extended dynamic range would help .. so i tried a few experiments ...
(haddn't used bracketing on the D200 before .. sooo much easier than the d100 ...i'll have to revisit it on nicer days ....) |
