I got the Windows Media Player for Mac working, but when I try to open the file I get a message, "This file may not play correctly because it was compressed by using a codec that is not supported." Then it opens but I get only sound, no pictures. Anybody know what's going on off the top of your heads? |
The code used to compress the video isn't compatible with the Mac version. You get that sometimes. That's what happens when you get the cutting edge technology!
There might be other players out there that support the codec. I'll look around |
Actually it will not play on my Windows box either. Media Player tried to DL the codec but could not find it. I see others can view it so I'm not sure what is going on. I can not view on a Mac or Windows machine.
Again, there may be other players out there but I won't take the time trying to figure out which one. It is up the the people making the videos to make sure the video is compatible with most up to date players, IMO. |
Thank you! If I figure it out, I'll let you know. |

peter, i looked at your website a while ago, and it possibly made me think i could maybe do wedding photo stuff. maybe. i've had a few people ask if i did it, and have said, um, maybe.. it's a bit scary though. no, it's a lot scary.
so, i have a question for you, which i've been meaning to ask. you've fnally given the perfect venue.
do you have an assistant when you shoot weddings, or do you run around like a mad thing? how many bodies do you use? ya know, all the usual stuff. did you assist on someone else's wedding shoots, or just dive straight in?
i'm specifially asking you, as you have a style simialr to what i'd like to do, if i did wedding work.
that, and you're a good photographer.
and you're cute.
oo, did i jsut say that?;-)

Did you guys try VLC (VideoLan Stream) player? Click Here, it claims that it covers most of the codecs. I also tried it for couple of AVI's and it worked for me where as windows media player failed.

Hmmm, I won't say you're cute but I'll piggyback on some of the other things. I've considered this as a route for my photography but it intimidates the hell out of my for obvious reasons. I've talked to a couple of local (Calgary) photogs and they aren't up to having someone just take pics with them so my opportunity to get my feet wet seems pretty limited especially with winter upon us.
So yeah, do you have assistants etc. Other photogs for weddings you've done?

This particular wedding was the first time I've used an assistant, and really it wasn't even like that. Ivo came along with me mostly because we're friends and thought it would be fun. He took some great candids and held the reflector once in awhile. It was also nice having a second shooter to be where I couldn't be. For most weddings though, I just do it all myself. I strap on the backpack and run like hell.
I carry two bodies, but tend to just use one - the other is just a backup. my issue with shooting on two cameras has to do with the CF cards and numbering being out of sequence afterwards. Lots of the software I use for making galleries and slideshows imports them in sequence, so it saves me time if they're already in order. kinda dumb i know, but I never claimed to be that SMRT.
Unfortunately I never got the chance to assist for someone else. I was asked to shoot a wedding by a friend a few years ago, and figured it couldn't be that different from any other modelling shoot, and really it wasn't. there's a little more pressure I suppose, but as long as you know what needs to be captured, you just make sure you're in the right place at the right time to capture it.

Don't know what software you're using but I sync my camera to my assistants time and date beforehand and view files by date created. Then you can do a batch rename if you need them sequenced... :0)

I can't see it either. I view WMV files all the time (using Flip4Mac- Microsoft discontinued WMV for Mac last year), but this is the first media file I've ever come across that plays sound but no video on a Mac. :-( |

Allright! If you can't get it to work then I might as well quit trying. At least I'm accomplishing something. |

that's really goofy that some peeps are having problems viewing it. I've done dozens of these shows and never had a problem with it before. I haven't 'upgraded' the software either. The reason I use Photostory is because it's the one that's most compatible with the people who are viewing the shows...usually they play just fine on Macs and PCs both. Imma have to look into it.
Shannon do you mind having a look at one of the other slideshows (This one for instance and let me know if it plays? That'll help me figure out if it's the format or just this particular show that's the issue.
fanx guys...you're a big help. That's why I like to hang out in this playground :) |

Thanks Ursula...that helps. So it appears your new 'puter doesn't like my software's codec rather than it being a specific issue with this one. This is good since i know the important people who will be viewing this particular show will be able to watch, since I've used this software with them before. Uh...not that you aren't important or anything...it's just that I want the bride and groom and their families to be able to view it more :D |

What if they smarten up, like me, and get themselves a shiny new Mac? You're in big trouble, pedro. |
