Laurie - Congrats on your new "downgrade". Just read your profile note and sounds like I could have written it. I feel so much freedom with just little P&S it gives me the opportunity to focus on what I'm shooting, not what I'm shooting with. Hope it all works out for you, can't wait to see your new shots!

That P&S looks bigger than some SLRs...

Laurie I almost did what you did, but instead of selling my camera I sold my zoom lenses and bought an adapter for my old practika primes (29, 50, 135), it's much more fun when you just let go of the techno-fetischism that plagues the photo-community.

I "downsized" as well and am loving it. Although I do still take my 645 along when doing "serious" photography. But it is so nice to have a camera that I can pack one lens (sometimes 2) and not feel like I am missing out.
Good luck with your new purchase.

I've been feeling the same way lately. What I've decided to do is keep the SLR because I love it so much, but I'm going to get a canon A710is very soon which is small enough to keep with me all the time, but has enough fuctions to let me do what I want. I'd been considering the G7, but I think it costs too much for the minimal differences.

I haven't gotten rid of the 10D just yet... but I'm sure it's days are numbered. HOWEVER...
AAAARRRRGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!
My bank put a hold on (then cancelled) my check card today because of suspicious activity on my account. Turns out some place they are tracking had placed a charge on my account for $1.00, most likely to make sure the account number worked or something heinous like that...and now the bank is sending me a new card. It will be about a week before it comes in. The online merchant where I bought the camera hadn't processed their payment yet, so now my camera order is cancelled and I have to wait until I get the new card to buy it again!!!! I'm so bummed. I go from glee to bummed in just a few hours.
I'm glad the bank was looking out for me, but UGH it was at a most inconvenient time. Eventually, however, the cam will appear and I will let you share in my gleefulness once again.

There was a full-page ad in the (Japanese) newspaper yesterday for the A710is; it looks very good. 1cm macro! |
