im sitting at 4.9 at the moment after 103 votes which i am quite happy with. i'm also finding it difficult to hand out high scores as everyone else is. i think that the winner of this challenge may be someone who scores in the high 5's. There is irony evident in some of the pics, unfortunately many of the snapshots lack the creativity we are used to on this site. we didn't expect this one to be so difficult did we? |

hey, I've got a 4.9 too. I'm not happy with that score at all, but like you said, a 4.9 might not be so bad if the blue ribbon winner is a 5.1 ! ;) |

Oh, if I'd only had time... After the big snapshot uproar of the last week, I came up with the following idea: Take a picture of a snap (you know, a physical snap, like on clothing) - a real nice, quality close-up macro shot. Get it printed at about 8x10 and put it in a nice matte. Get a big blue ribbon, maybe with a "1st" medallion in the middle and place it on the print, and set this up against a nice velvet backdrop with some good studio lighting and take a picture of that.
The caption: "Snap" Shot Takes Blue Ribbon
Unfortunately, not enough time this week to do the idea justice.

Given the discussion and confusion over what constitutes irony, plus the general concept people have of where you find irony (most people seem to look for it in the everyday world), yeah I expected it to be difficult, and even predicted somewhere lots of snapshots. Lets see if the snapshot haters are as quick to jump on this challenge as they were on the less popular "kids & pets" shots... |

i'd think, given how interpretable this challenge is, culturally, personally, semantically, that people would be gentle with each other and in voting ..
i guess i was wrong :)

I'm right around 4.5, which I'm pleased with. This is only my second challenge and yeesh.. irony was hard to do.
My shot does have flaws, and folks have pointed them out quite candidly, which I appreciate - so all in all, a 4.5 isn't too bad in my estimation.
I need to go do my second voting round now and tweak scores as necessary. Its hard to figure what some of the 'irony' in the images are, so I voted low on those - now I'll go in with the 'irony is damn hard to do' mentality and see if that changes my interpretation of any photos and thus my vote.

I am at 4.3 but have 11 comments so I am very happy at least to invoke a spark to a few! |

I'm at a mere 3.8. However, I expected less. I was actually compelled to apoligize for submitting the photo and wasting people's bandwidth. I just could find something more fitting so I went with the pun (urgh). I did think of using red letters to spell blue and blue letters to spell red but by the time I though of it, it was too late to run to the craft store and pick-up the letters and spray paint. |

I started with a 5 then went to a nice 5.19 now I am down to 4.9. But I do have 6 nice comments and a tough critique. Reading this thread I feel pretty happy... I do think is a mid range rated challenge |
