First of all, how many DPC'ers use Photoshop Elements?
Well, version 5.0 has been announced and I was wondering if the new features are worth it.
It appears that most of the new features have nothing to do with photo editing, but more with viewing and distribution.
Your thoughts?

| I've read that Elements 5 will come with Curves - this is a great addition to photo editing. My photos have really improved since I got Photoshop CS2 just because I've been using curves which was never included with Elements before. |

Curves would be nice to have, but I only purchased Elements 4 a few months ago, and the upgrade price is almost as much as I paid for that full version - so right now it seems a bit pricey for what I would get.
Added to that, here's some of the new "selling points" -
Use flexible layout options as a starting point for your creations
- Hardly useful, because my starting point is normally a photo.
Animate your photos using flash
- Can't see myself ever doing that.
Map your memories
- Photos show up in a location map. Gimmicky, maybe useful for a short time. Depends how much of the world it covers.
Really it just doesn't seem worth it right now.
Paint Shop Pro XI is also out, but I have the same issues with that. |

Curves (and Other Goodies) for PS Elements
Or try this one with Curves, the Channel Mixer, Layer Mask and Selective Color adjustments. |

I may try that. Hopefully it does curves in a way that is basic legal. |

| Those goodies do not work with Elements 4. They only work with the first 3 versions. |

yep, I also read that there are curve adjustments in PS Elements 5.0 and that is the reason I will probably buy it. I am currently using PS Elements 2.0, so I figure I am due for a change:)
And, yes, there are all kinds of add-ins, some are good, some are so-so. Also for just $89, it is as cheap as you least expensive lense for DSLR owners. |

| I had picked up Elements 4 but used it for all of 30 minutes when I realized that curves, layer masks and selective colors were all not possible with that program. Hopefully PSE5 has them. Me - I will stick with PSE2 until I can make the jump to tghe pro version. |

I'm not sure about the ones banmorn posted about, as I haven't tried them, but, the curve filter I posted does work with pse4, as I am using it just fine.
