My office is holding a Habitat for Humanity fund raiser and I have been asked to take photos. For a donation, they will print out a 4x6 of the photos I take. I am considering using a chromakey green background and doing a digital backdrop instead of a set up there. I've never done that before, so I am not sure yet.

Does anyone have a nice harvest/autumn photo that would work well as a backdrop that you'd be willing to donate the use of?

Oh...and as usual, I'm doing all of this at the last minute :) The fundraiser is tomorrow.

Judy, my experience with chroma key hasn't been great. Depending on details like hairstyle, it can be very difficult to remove the subject from the bg and sometimes bits of chroma key color get left behind or the subject ends up looking "cut out". Do you plan to spend a great deal of time processing these?

If you do chromakey, keep the person far from the background to avoid colour spills.

Run a quick test of possible, to see how hard it will be to remove the background.

Probably not more than 5 minutes for each one. One of the things I'm counting on is that the print will only be 4x6 - which leaves a little more room for fudging than 5x7's or 8x10's. I haven't shot a chroma key background, but I have worked with a photo that was shot against one and it turned out well.

Actually, I am headed into the office in about an hour to do a "trial run" on some agents there.

One of my concerns is that I don't have any lighting, and won't have much time to edit. I know these don't have to be perfect (as they will know I am "first" a Realtor who does this as a hobby), but I'm concerned with the appearance of the background.

I will being trying out both today and maybe I'll post a few here later.

I forgot to add that since the backgrounds I'm looking for will be scenic, there is also a little more room for error in the removal of the chroma key background....not quite as obvious I think. I dunno.

You get programs that remove chromakey backgrounds, might be better than doing it by hand with photoshop.

It's not much, but if it'd help, I have this one you could use...

If you want the full-res, just PM me with an email address and I'll send it on...

Thanks! I think after talking with the organizers at the office, that they already have some props they want to use (hay bales, pumpkins and mums.) So...I'll just do what I'm told :)

Nice shots though!
