Anyone knows about? They seem to be in conjunction with 'picture.com'. I wonder about the serious of this association. Anyone aware?

Thanks

'picture.com' seems to be a fairly well known 'scam'. Its one of those everyone who enters 'win's' and gets 'published' in a big book that gets sold to all the winners for $50 a pop, and has copies of everyone elses' pictures in it. So basically you pay them $50 to print your picture in a book with all the other people who paid them $50 to get their picture printed.

Similar scams exist for poetry as well.

I checked out International Society of Photographers after naively uploading photos to 'picture.com'. But thanks to a close friend I didn't get taken in by the 'scam' other than the fact my photo is going to be in their book.

They are part of a parent compnay that also runs the poetry 'scam'.

I've also heard of people thay paid to receive the book over a year ago and still haven't received it.

It is kind of exciting to get that letter in the mail saying your photo got picked, until you find out its all a 'scam' .. lol. Luckily I never paid for the book either.

Fortunately for me the only time I thought about that 'picture.com', it wouldn't upload from Mac.
By the way (not really a 'scam'), anyone heard from America 24/7?

I got this update from them about a week ago:

We'd like to take this time to thank you again for participating in the America 24/7 digital photography project last May. We thought you'd be interested to hear how the national and state books are coming along and what we have planned for the launch of national America 24/7 edition this fall.

As a result of all of the terrific images you took, we had a wealth of photographic images to select from. We've seen the first few copies of the national America 24/7 edition coming off the presses in Japan and it is gorgeous! It is 304 pages, printed on lustrous, heavy stock, and weighs in at a hefty six pounds.

The national America 24/7 edition will debut on October 27, 2003 with a huge advertising blitz, extensive media coverage on TV, in national magazines and local newspapers. Early media response has been extremely positive.

We are starting to produce the state books now and will be working on them through next summer 2004. In order to facilitate the caption-writing process, we would appreciate it if you save all of your files, model releases, and caption information in a handy place, so if our caption writers call, you'll be able to respond quickly to ensure your photo will be included.

If you thought the number of people was bad, take a look at the number of publications that were put out and the dates that they were published

There are some days that have 3 publications go out and very small gaps between publications.

No, she didn't go. She had figured it out by then, when she kept receiving "junk" in the mail.

That alone is only evidence that they have an efficient production system. Editing a ton of photos, laying out book pages, and especially sending jobs to the printer are best done all at one time .... I imagine they sore out the photos they receive into piles for the different titles, and when they have enough they print the books.
