Some friends of mine ordered a very large giclee on canvas of a waterfall. I'm so tickled with how it came out but now they want it signed. I really feel that the only signature that belongs on the front is God's but since He's not available to sign it, I'm willing to sign the back. Does anyone know what medium I should sign it with? Pencil? Pen? Charcoal? Any guidance is appreciated!

I'd suggest pencil, as it doesn't contain any nasty chemicals that might do bad things to the canvas/image over time.

There might be certain pens that are suitable, not sure... hopefully someone else will jump in.

Charcoal is vulnerable to smudging, unless you use fixative to protect it. Not knowing what fixative contains (other than at least one chemical is toxic - usage outside not inside is recommended), I would be reluctant to use it on photographic prints without expert advice.

You could also check your local craft store (Michael's?) for acid-free archival ink pens. They come in a variety of colors and thicknesses and are definitely less than $10. They are usually in the scrapbooking section, I think.

jmsetzler had a great idea where he made a folio/jacket for the back of the framed print and inserted a page where he wrote a little bit about the image, and then signed that. Given that you are hesitant to sign the actual print, it's something to think about.

HTH.
