I think I would appreciate comments if they weren't all "how clever" and "very nice" and "wow, should score high!" when the score clearly doesn't reflect what the few commenters are saying. My question to you... you are ranting against poor comments... do you give quality comments or are you in the category you put comments in ?
I havent gone to see what your commenting syle is, but if its the same... I wouldnt rant against them.

Okay, my goal in this challenge is to vote and comment on ALL of the entries (besides mine, of course. Otherwise I'd give it a 10 and call myself a photgraphic genious!!!).
So far, this is what I've done:
You have rated 62 of 251 images (25%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 26 images (10%) in this challenge.
I'm trying to be constructive and give reasons why I like it as well as reasons it doesn't work for me. It struck me that I ought to be doing this as I still have no comments to explain my own dismal score. So, I'm looking for a little karmic help. Anyone want to join me in a 100% vote/comment status? |

Oh please, definitely go look at the comments I've given. I've made honest critiques of entire challenge fields. Some I didn't have much to say about, but most got two or three lines and I didn't pussyfoot around for fear of getting yelled at for being critical. I try to find something positive about a photo to mention in addition to the critique - again, sometimes I just have nothing to add. And when I really like something, I say so, try to say "I like the way that ________" instead of just "Great job" or what have you. People don't always like what I have to say, as evidenced by the number of times that photogs have marked every single comment helpful except for mine, the only in depth or remotely negative critique they got. Those are the people who don't want anything that doesn't validate them. I personally find comments that disagree with my opinion to be helpful since they alert me to other interpretations, alternative tastes, etc. But to lump everyone who complains about the voters or the quantity or quality of comments into the same category of whiners who want validation is uncalled for. I wish I could get as good as I give.

I won't promise 100% 'cause life tends to get in the way sometimes...but I'm working on it. I think commenting on other's work is one of the best ways to improve your eye as a photographer....Littlebird, you go girl! |

This is good advice and precisely why I will probably not vote in this challenge. If I decide not to vote, I will try to comment on many of the "average" pictures to get people some comments. I may even take requests by PM, which should be OK if I'm not voting. Of course, at this point I'm not sure if anybody even wants my comment, considering how I misjudged my own picture.
I will take another good look at it tonight on my main monitor and see if I missed something last night. I uploaded it last night with 3 min. to spare and hopefully didn't send up the wrong one.

Friendly note from the Site Council:
While it sucks when your shot is "underrated", try not to insult the voters..they are the hand that feeds you, even if you do wish you could flip them the bird. As well, a good sense of humour, for all, is worthwhile to develop! Sometimes things are just plain funny, even if they aren't politically correct.

What do you mean "Carry on!"? I believe this member has "flipped them the bird", based on his photo attached earlier in this thread. Why is the member to which you refer still a member here? Based on the photo of him flicking the bird at everyone, I really thought there might be some penalty invoked. Are there no rules of behavior?

She was referring to the memeber who will comment on the current challenege by having them pm him the title, which is BIG NO NO.
