LOL. My reaction exactly, at least initially.
That is, trees can beautiful subjects, but my eyes will be bleeding after voting on hundreds of them.

There's not one from me. I took photos of one, but it wan't an interesting tree and I didn't like the background, so I didn't go through with the editing.
Actually, living in Japan as I do, there's a plethora of bonsai trees around the place ... but they're usually on shelves with other bonsai trees. It's hard to get them singly, is what I'm saying.
If I could take the picture I have in my mind, it would do very well, I'm sure, but I'd need a studio, good lighting and an excellent specimen. So I'm sitting this one out. |

'Single tree as main subject' is not the same as saying 'lone tree as only subject'. |

It could. I think your second caption is a subset of the first one.
We're probably agreeing. You are likely reacting to someone who said they wanted less in your picture. I'm suffering the same fate, although I knew it was a risk going in. (I actually pulled a "lone tree as the only subject" and put in a "single tree as the (semi)main subject)". It's not going well... ;) |

You forgot the 14 Infrared entries |
And you forgot 3 photos that don't actually have trees in them.
And you forget the 6 photos where trees were incidental - as opposed to the main subject, usually framing an otherwise worthy photo better targeted to some other challenge. |

Why can't we just let the voters decide if the challenge entries fit the theme or not? I find this verbal wrangling unnecessary and perhaps a little uncalled for (scoring thread also). JMO of course. |
