Holy moley, I hope not or we're gonna get a lot of boring photographs. The good shots are gonna have a single tree but also have that tree involved in something interesting. You might as well ask if it's DNMC because of the clouds.

I think that is possible the most downloaded stock image around :)

Hehehehehe! Ya, I've made a few $$ off of it. ;-)

You can always get "up close and personal" with your subject ...

Yeah...
But would it bomb like I'm thinking it would?

If I submitted it, yeah, but if Ursula submits it I'd predict a 6.8 minimum ... : )

30 trees against a distant background (canyons, ocean, etc.)
50 trees against a pure blue sky
30 trees with cute kids leaning against them or hanging from them
20 trees full of birds
3 trees with a dog relieving himself
10 stumps
29 closeups of bark, many with bugs
5 shots getting cute with the word "tree" (a 3, a shoe tree, etc.)
15 flowers that grow on trees
3 trees with naked women draped around them, lounging near them, or hanging upside down from them
2 blank rectangles of solid color from charliebaker and others

Now to find something not in one of the above categories. :)

Mine fit in more than one of those catagories! ROFL
Its unique and I predict it will bomb. But I don't care!
I like thinking outside the box and if I get stuck with 5.0 on all of my images for it. So be it!

3 naked women with the word TREE painted across their breasts rubbing against tree bark while a dog relieves itself on 15 flowers (the whole scene being centered on the lower right 3rds intersection)?

I think we have a winner here.

LOL. My reaction exactly, at least initially.

That is, trees can beautiful subjects, but my eyes will be bleeding after voting on hundreds of them.

I'm glad you posted that. I expect the ribbon winners to be among that group but it helps to gauge what others think is less original/creative. Btw, don't forget to add models with angel wings to that group. :P

Hmmmm .... 6.8? Promise? I can do a bunch like this. Maybe spray some water on it, shallow DOF, use a CD for reflector, hmmmm. :)

I promise nothing with regard to DPC voters.

Maybe this person will enter.
It was their only challenge entry.

It snows in central california in September. Sure it does. ;)

I guess I am just going to have to improvise to take the blue ribbon in this challenge, muahahahahaha! :P

Do you know anyone with a cool Bonsai?

IMO - only if done well, not much of an answer but it pretty much boils down to that. Do it well, people will throw accolades - do it poorly and people will Roseinate a poor selective oof.

If it's "Bokeh" and not obviously "blurred" it should do better -- shoot with an open aperture and as much distance as possible between subject and background.

a tree challenge, right as i leave this place for my break? ive never seen more amazing trees than out here! truly, there is no justice in the world...

I have an idea for this one, but don't know if I can pull it off. Plus it's out of the box, and most of the voters lately want stock stuff.
09/09/2006 10:22:00 AM · #73
Mine is a bit out of the box, too. It has a unique editing idea which will probably get the score down around 4.8, but I don't care because I am in to experimentation at this point, and doing some odd sort of techniques. Perfect example was my free study. I used a fogmaker filter and created a very unique mood. Didn't do well, but that is okay. I like it and that is all that counts.

I haven't entered but I've been thinking about the challenge.

Remember back to the Fireworks challenge and how old simple starburst shots got. The winners as I recall had context in their shots.

I'm thinking that one lone tree after another may get equally boring and that we might all find relief from context in a photo.

Just thinking out loud.

Now back to your regular programming.
