Hi all

I have a 2.0 mp camera on which I am shooting on the medium setting, roughly 940 x 1200 psi. I keep getting comments on making the pix bigger, but the file size is 150k or less, so I'm having to size down my pix a fair bit so they meet this requirement.

My software is Photoshop Elements 1.0.

Any suggestions on how I can submit big lovely pix that stay within 150k?

Is there a save for web option in Elements 1.0? If so, use that and the 'optimize for filesize' feature. This way you keep the pixel dimensions at or near the max allowed and the file size at or near the size allowed.

If I were you, I'd shoot the photos in the camera at the highest possible resolution, and then resize downwards in your software.

If you can afford it, get a copy of Elements 4 or Paint Shop Pro X, as these will make your life easier when resizing, I expect.

Otherwise, if there is no button that lets you "optimize to file size", such as there is in Elements 4, then try resizing your photo down to about 640xsomething, and then do save as, choose JPEG as the saving format, and see if there is an "options" button in the save dialogue box. If there is, click on that. It should show you some kind of quality slider for the save, ranging from 0 to 100. By reducing this down from 100, you will lose quality but make the file smaller. Generally you don't want to go less than about 75%, so if you're finding that you do have to, try resizing the photo to a slightly smaller size instead.
