Love the poem by Kistover, and the one by Maya Angelou posted by LaurielBlack. And all the thoughtful comments in this thread.
My own philosophy? Well, it took a while to get there but here goes:
I am who I am. I try to be the best person I know how to be.
If you don't like the way I look or the way I think, go look at and talk to someone else.
I'll get by. No problem. |

Kelly, praise the Lord sister! Lately I have been struck by the views that my prejudiced eyes have. Like for instance, yesterday, I was sitting on the train and I saw someone, I wont tell you what my thoughts were, but as soon as they stopped running through my mind I heard this, "But that is not how God looks at them, He sees them as a wonderful creation whom He loves very much, exactly the same as He sees you."
God loves us all, no matter what we look like to each other, that is why He sent His son Jesus to be born like one of us, grow up like one of us, be tempted, loved and despised like one of us and to die for us.
Thanks for your poem Kelly, thanks for letting God use you and shine through you. Thanks for reminding me that I am not the only one who is beautiful in His eyes.

Well worded your lovely wordsmith you.
I'd also like to take this chance to also point everyone in the direction of Dove. Their latest ad campaign has focused on how we expect women to be completely unreal and I know the Dove billboard video was posted in a thread. Here is the link again: //www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZoyfhG0Wwk
Everyone go watch it. Love it. Embrace it.
I give Dove some major props for doing this.
I've railed against the noise ninjaed, cloned, zapped, reshaped images that portray women in the media for years.
It's stupid and it has to stop! NO ONE LOOKS LIKE THAT!
