I notice it in images alot and hear it in comments. Would be a fun idea for a challenge, to do it entionally.

To place side by side, especially for comparison or contrast.

I shot a 'juxtaposition' last night during a newspaper assignment. It's such a 'contrast' that the paper probalby won't run it.

i think that's a fancy word for a Triptych.

Tryptic is a totally different concept than juxtaposition. Here are a few examples:

We had "juxtaposed" in the challenge description for the recent "color on color", and it was edited out a few hours after the challenge was posted because too many people were complaining it was too difficult of a word...

It's a fancy word for how things relate to each other in the composition. It's not restricted to just two objects and it's not just for comparing either. This would be like a free study.
