This was my submisson for Ground Up.........
Most of my comments point to oversharpening, bad compression and excessive contrast........
Here is the orignal snap......Would like to know how it could have been processed in a better manner by staying within Basic Editing Rules.....kindly mention the steps used.

Wow, what a difference. The golden glow in those clouds is great. Might crop out the tilted light pole but that picture could have been entered as is. Very nice shot (sorry, at work can't play with photoshop).

Now that i have the result i think entering the orignal pic with jus a bit of USM and neat image would have yeilded better results....but somehow i felt the colors in orignal pic were too dull , thought they wouldnt be appreciated ..........

I think a lot of us feel that way about our images and tend to go a bit overboard in post.

well... i don't have exact steps for you, but i'd say just a little bit of added contrast, a tiny bump in the sat, and a touch of usm and you could have submitted it as is and gotten a higher score...

Took a stab at it.

Adjusted levels.
Adjusted curves.
Adjusted color. (Master color and then brought up the reds a tad more)
Smart Sharpen.
Neat Image.

Nice shot. Too bad about the black specks that show up. Basic Editing won't allow those to be taken out.

Basic editing is annoying, especially when you have sensor dust!
