I have a D200. I also happen to have a 30GB Dell Jukebox MP3 Player.

I wonder if anyone has tried connecting one to a camera and transfer the contents of the memory card to the MP3 player.

I am going to NYC for a day of picture taking and I only have 3Gig of CF cards (a 2GB and a 1GB). I don't want to lug my notebook computer all over the city, but an MP3 player is tiny.

I have used my MP3 player more as a portable hard drive than an MP3 player.

On the menus for the D200 there is a few options for the USB port. I don't quite know what one of them is. It appears to transfer the pictures when you take them.

I might even consider keeping the USB cable plugged into the D200 all day while snapping pics if it works.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Sincerely,
Tony T

i am guessing with out a pc interface that probably wouldn't work. But like I said, I am guessing. It certainly would be cool if it does.

I dunno for sure but I believe the D200 allows for wireless shooting? So you can take the pic and transfer it to your PC. I have an ipod and was able to purchase a camera connector that lets me insert the USB cable from the cam to the connector which is plugged into the ipod that transfers pics that way.

Cool. This is what I was looking for. If they have it for an iPod, maybe they will have it for other MP3 players. We do have a few iPods in the house, a 6GB pink one, and a 60GB video ipod (my son's).

I am going to look into this more.

Wireless wouldn't help me in this case becasue I don't want to lug a big computer around.

What I think you should do is send me your D200 and I'll test it on all known hardware devices just to make sure it's compatible.

:D

Unless your particular MP3 player has reached iPod's ubiquiteous status I doubt you'll find what you are looking for.

Did you mean "ubiquitous"? iPods have the style and the market share, but other MP3 players are more "open".

There are 2 USB modes on the D200. One looks like it's an active transfer, while the other waits for the computer to pull the files off. That is the key. When I get home, I am going to try it. What's the worst thing that can happen? I can blow up my camera, mp3 player and my memory card.

Shudder. ;)

Nikon D50 manual says, "Choose a USB option for connection to a computer or PictBrige printer. Choose PTP when using a PictBridge printer or using the Camera Control feature of Nikon Capture 4.3 (available seperately)."

I will read the manual 1st.

I wonder what the "wireless" option for the D200 does. Does it automatically transfer the pictures over the wireless as you take them, or do you have to fumble through menus and select things and press buttons to get them to transfer.

It would be cool (after setting up connections) to just shoot and have the pics go right to the computer w/o doing anything, just like in a SEARS studio. I never see the person working there fumble with CF cards and transfer programs.
