I didn't enter this challenge, and I'm glad I didn't. Nothing I would have come up with would have been even close to doing well against most of these shots. There's some seriously funny stuff!

I have some really crappy zero-effort shots that have scored much much higher than the stuff I've put in lately, work of which I am proud, that shows just how far I've truly come.

Studio shots are a skill all to their selves and really can take a long time to figure out how to do well, just like learning how to shoot at night or landscape photography. Except with studio shots you are never going to practice them on accident like you may with night or landscape shots, so you can be a really good photographer in many other ways and still need to learn and practice studio shots before your scores will catch up with what you are learning. With My third best score, I told my friend to go stand over there and took a quick shot, that same week I spent an entire afternoon trying a more studio set-up shot that totally had major issues that I couldn't fix. Don't get too down, your highest rated shot so far is a studio shot :).

AND I dreamt last night that there was suddenly an extra button which let you see the exact scores you had been given.....

No complaints from me about my score. Just out of curiosity, has anyone else noticed the considerable amount of entries that are out of focus? I voted a whole bunch of 4s because of this and now I'm wondering if I'm seeing things since no-one else has brought it up...

I've noticed a few that were quite soft. I do think that voters are a little quick on the "Out of focus" trigger without considering that it might be intentional. Sometimes it doesn't work even if it is intentional, but not every image, even the subject, needs to be in sharp focus to be effective, IMHO.

That said, I think a few of these are just poorly shot. There are also some very clever ones in this challenge too.

Can't say that I noticed that. Mine has relatively shallow focus, but there are definitely intended in-focus areas.

A certain percentage. I dont know. 3? Ive havent really done the math. but there are always a bit of OOF pics. there are always people who's first challenge it is and are still learning. it happens.

Yeah I DID notice a LOT with shallow DOF's . I don't concider those in the category of OOF though. they are obviously intended and there is an area of sharp focus.

This is very true. We got a lot of new members just days before the Peas challenge came up, and it's a challenge that rather caters to them. I'm betting a few of these entries are from our new folks. Not implying that the pod people are bad photogs, merely that just about everyone gets off to a rough start here.

Eeek, I'm sorry Mo..

lol, no worrry... I had a feeling it wouldn't do very well when I submitted it, but decided to enter anyway... learning experience right?

At least my ground up shot isn't fairing as badly as everything else has so far- and it's got a ton of comments;)

It could also be the nature of the subject matter. I know this is where I'm getting creamed with my score. Due to the way I lit my picture, it appears to be OOF but it actually is in focus. But in the end it doesn't matter, because if it's perceived as being OOF, then it is OOF. Hopefully I will not make this mistake again. And now I'm paying the price...

Ok so when will the learning experience end and the good scores begin? lol The past three pics I have entered have not scored higher than 5....

I guess I lack creativity on stuff other than painting! I had a cool idea for the bits and pieces challenge and then took pics and decided I hated it! lol

Yup, noticed the shallow dofs too, I'm quite fond of those.

LOL! I'll let you know...

My inner-optimistic-philosopher says that even with good scores, the learning part never ends;)

Okay, now I have two pair - 4.2929 and a comment that actually explains what at least one person thought was wrong with it. Which is nice.
