I'm a great fan (probably a very common thing) of keeping a camera with me as often as possible and being prepared to stop anywhere at anytime to capture something beautiful. Because I live out in the country, I've noticed that many of my roadside shots include fenceposts, at least somewhere in the pre-cropped photo. I've been calling these roadside shots fencepost photography for a while now. Do many others do this? Feel free to direct me to your favorite photo taken this way. Thanks

Fenceposts often lend impact elements to a landscape... in the example image posted here, it creates some added contrast. In a lot of others, it just offers texture or maybe a leading line that improves the overall impact of a photo...

Anyone else have some "Fencepost Photography" to add to this ad hoc gallery. See the first entry to this discussion for a definition of Fencepost Photography.

JP

I just love this shot!
But why do I want to sing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow"
Or "Follow The Yellow Brick Road"
Or "Were Off To See The Wizard The Wonderful Wizard of OZ"

LOL

Great work JP!

It's wonderful fun to stop the car, get out and shoot. Of course I can't tell you how many times I've almost been hit getting in and out of the car. I just grin and wave at them. It's the farm dogs that scare me!!

Hope this fits this thread....Does anyone have any shots of the "slave walls" from the southern USA??? I remember seeing them on a trip to FLA back in '76 and looked for them last spring when I was in GA. I tried describing them to my son's teacher but am not sure if she knew what I was talking about...

By "slave walls" I mean (miles long) walls of stacked rough cut stones (no mortar or other 'glue' to hold them together) along country roads in the Georgia (and other southern states???) area. Back in the day they were described to me as a way to keep the slaves busy during their down time. In modern times farmers and other land holders took great care to keep the walls intact in honor of all the effort that was made to put them together...
