I have to ask for my own peace of mind even though I'm quite sure this is okay.

When I was shooting in JPG, I was able to right-click a photo file for properties and view the EXIF that way. Now that I've upgraded my camera's firmware, I'm able to shoot in NEF. However, when I use the right-click method to see EXIF, there's nothing there. However, I can see it when I pull it up in Nikon View. Would this be acceptable in the event of a validation? Given the sheer number of people who shoot Nikon and shoot RAW I'm guessing yes, but the RAW newbie is worrying a bit since nothing she previously knew to be true seems to apply.

For reference, I did not use transfer software of any kind, just plugged the camera into USB and, treating it as an external drive, literally used copy/paste to get them into a harddrive folder.

You're fine, don't worry about it. Windows isn't recognizing the NEF formatting is all. I can't right-click the EXIF on my Canon RAW files either.

Yes, the EXIF is there.

For Right Click functionality and thumbnailing of RAW (NEF) images in Windows Explorer get the Microsoft RAW Image Thumbnailer. It comes in really handy for me.

Only for Canon and Nikon users, but displays Tiff though.
