...considered an outtake?

An image that was posted was for an upcoming challenge that has NOT started voting yet was removed from a thread. Fire II.

MANY times, I'd say weekly, threads are started about an upcoming challenge with images posted and people asking "would this fit the theme?", "if only I could do this one again...", etc... Zen comes to mind immediately, a TON of images posted prior to the challenge, while entries were able to be submitted.

I don't get the inconsistency in rule regulation/enforcement.

From the above referenced thread.

just fyi i have removed an outtake from a current challenge from this thread.

the forum rules specifically request that you refrain from posting outtakes until the voting for a challenge has ended.

thanks!

I really don't agee with taking out the photos even before the contest started.

What if you would have posted your "fire" pic and not made reference to the challenge except to say..."check out this 'man on fire'"?? Would they have taken it out?

Will they take out this whole post if I say my entry to the Fire challenge will be a "burning bush"??? (I am not entering the Fire challenge). If this were the case, as of today, you can't post any shot to a forum that depicts "fire".??!?!?!?!

This is why I have been opposed to this rule since before it became a rule and was just the paranoia of a few afraid voting was being influenced. It is impossible to enforce consistantly or fairly.

It's worse than that. There is a 'Free Study' going on. In order for the rule to be consistently enforced it would now be impossible to post any picture to this site until after voting.

I say let people post their outtakes and before long people will stop posting them all on their own except maybe the newbies who don't know any better.

Reason why I say this is I've never seen graphicfunk or scalvert, two people who always come up with great ideas posting their outtakes before the challenge. Why is that? What purpose would it serve to give away a good idea when you're competing against others in the same contest? Sure people will post "ideas" in the forums which is why I say allow people to post outtakes because we all know people are going to keep their great ideas to themselves anyway so we'll never see those outtakes.

Besides, if you see everyone posting outtakes that mirror your own entry then wouldn't that be a learning experience? You'd learn that maybe you need to do something a bit extra to stand out or shoot a different subject entirely.

The sillier a rule is, the harder it is to enforce. I say dump the rule. End the tyranny of the majority! Torch 'em, Art!

I can see both sides but the image in question IMo was nto an outake since it against the rules. i doubt that he will submit a similar entry. and as far as other fire images there is a whole other challenge full of them not to mention plenty in the heat challenge, should those be hidden?

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Funny how SC has been quiet on this one. ;^)

I guess you can post any image you want as long as you don't use the outtake word.

Still puzzles me how the Zen challenge had images pouring in all over the place during the challenge submission phase, may have even been more than one thread - that was ok. Hmmm.

Oh well...fun to think about I guess. ;^)

Sometimes it's cool, sometimes not.

Post 'em if you got 'em I guess! ;^)
