Has any one had any experience with the Sigma "EX" Line, and the Canon "L" Line?
Also this lens looks really cool:

Super wide for the Canon 10D, Will make the 8mm into a 12.8
Thanks in advance

Not direct experience but globally their lense are good as well and the EX serie is their more 'pro' lenses.
Some people ( hard to know how much but it's significant) experience problem with Sigma lens on a recent camera, the lens needs to be sent to Sigma to change the chip ( canon do NOT licence the EOS protocol, it has to be back reingeneered by the third party companies. Somehow it looks mainly Sigma has problems, not tamron for example).
You might want to check the forum on dpreview.com about that lens. I am not sure of what you get with a fisheye lens with the crop factor ...
I have used a 15 mm fisheye on the 10D with nice results even if it became a 20mm.
Be carefull, a 15 mm fisheye x1.6 picture is NOT the same as a rectilinear 20mm. But is hould be intresing !

I own the sigma 24-70/2.8 EX. It rocks. Bought it because it was very well reviewed. And it was only $400, not $1100 or whatever the Canon version costs. Plus it comes with a lens pouch and a hood!

I've got the 70-200 F4L, and I know Gordon has experience with it as well (more than me) and he's also used the 70-200 F2.8L. I think Carsten has the IS version, and Toddh has the Sigma.
I really like the Canon, though from what I've read the Sigma is a very high-quality lens as well. You can't go wrong with either, I don't think. The Sigma also comes in a nice case and has the tripod ring, while the Canon comes in a soft case (useless other than keeping it out of the dust around home) and the tripod ring is an additional $140 bucks.
It really comes down to what your style of shooting will be. If you are going to be carrying it lots of places and are willing to accept F4 instead of F2.8 in exchange for a bit more durablity and a lot less weight, go Canon F4. If you want the extra stop and don't mind the extra weight and a $100 more or so, get the Sigma.
Both have had reported issues (the Canon backfocusing on the 10D and the Sigma requiring an updated chip to work with the 10D) but both are fixable under warranty from Canon and Sigma should you encounter such a problem. For what it's worth, my 70-200 is extremely fast to focus, highly accurate in its focusing, and is very, very sharp and has great contrast and colour through the zoom range and aperture. At F4 at both 70 and 200, I'd be lying if I said I'd want better performance.
If you want the best, get the Canon F2.8L or the F2.8L IS. Be prepared to spend lots of cash though...
As for the fisheye, that circular image isn't too usable. Do a search for 8mm fisheye examples (photosig.com is a good place to browse by lens) and you'll see what I mean. It creates a circular image. |

I think it's pretty obvious which series to get after you read the MTF reviews, assuming you have the dough.

Thanks I've really been looking at all of the lenses Canon puts out and then I went to the camera store and saw the Sigma's for much cheaper. I currently have the 28-200 3.5-5.6 USM, and would like something in the wide range and the telephoto range. I'll keep looking, BTW Ebay is a dangerous thing.
