what a crappy, slow server...I wonder if anyone actually has the patience to visit that site. I know I wait maybe 10 seconds then I'm done.

just bumping so maybe ralphnev sees it. his photo is still up there.

Zedge requires the copyrigt holder to report a theft? I think they could just scroll through their own site and remove about 90% of what's there. I would think thye thay know that Homer Simpson, Microsoft logo, 007, etc. are copyrighted.

so this site is full of peoples' stolen images or what then?

I still have yet to get it to load a single page successfully.

it seems like mostly digital art and stolen images. i believe they are mostly commercial images stolen but one guy had one of my photos from here and one of ralphnevs from here. i'm not sure if any of the others are from DPC users or not there are thousands.

That one I'd have to disagree. Look at the bright spot at the bottom of the beam of light. It is a different shape. Taken from the same spot? Sure. It's a popular spot.

If you're going to get so upset when someone lifts an image - I would recommend you not post to DPC or any other part of the internet.

How many of you have accepted an MP3 file that you don't own the album to? Then get your panties in a wad when someone wants to use your photo for a phone backdrop? Hmmm, seems like a double standard to me.

It's the digital age - if it's good and it's digital it's going to get lifted. DPC shows up in Google searches very high in lots of searches - it's how I found it. The traffic will come and they WILL copy your images. It's a fact.

Look at this link at any given time there are three times as many visitors (copying your images) as there are registered members.

I think it was Forrest Gump who came up with "shit happens". Do we need drama everytime it does? Do we need to act so surprised? Puleease!

This is a different case obviously as the guy never said it was his but there are many cases where they do and Yeah, that IS shocking. Maybe people download mp3's but they don't go around telling people "Hey! listen to this awesome song "I" wrote." getting something for personal use is one thing. taking something with the intent of passing it off as yours and taking credit is totally different. and I will never stop being amazed that people can lie, cheat and steal like that.
and as far as:

Just because they will doesnt mean you shouldn't fight. People WILL get raped everyday but that doesnt mean if it happens to me(again) that I wont fight.

You're right...shit does happen...but we as a community need to protect our images. It takes a team effort. When someone spots something, they should bring it to all of our attention. Then we can keep track of sites that are more 'prone' to image stealing. To just say that shit happens, forget about it, and don't be surprised is ridiculous.

Cars get stolen every day...do you lock your car at night or do you leave your key in the ignition with a sign on it that says "unlocked and keys inside"? I'll certainly lock my car every night and if someone steals it I'll be damned if I'm not going to speak my mind about it.

Maybe you've never had an image stolen...maybe you don't have images worth stealing...I don't know, I don't have the time to go through your profile to look, but I know it gives the victim a very bad feeling...it does NOT feel good and it's a horrible thing to do to someone. To think that they wouldn't be upset is ridiculous.

We Photographers need to stand up for ourselves and our friends...if you don't want to, that's fine...selfish, but fine.

I'm just wondering where your expectations are. You, to use deapee's strange little analogy, ARE leaving your car in the driveway, unlocked, with a sign (google) that invites millions of people a month to come look at your unlocked images.

Then when one steals your unlocked car with the sign in it saying "come and get me" you are SHOCKED, OUTRAGED, MORTIFIED!

Your car IS unlocked, there IS a sign on it saying "come and get me" with every image you upload. They WILL get stolen. EXPECT it.

It just puzzles me why so many members expect something else to be happening here.

OK...even if my car is in my driveway and a sign on it...it's still my car. And I'll chase down anyone that tries to take it. And if I can't catch them, I'm going to call the police. I won't just stand by and let it happen.

Just stay out of the thread if you're going to be negative and not care about our rights.

Someone steals my car, keys inside it or even sitting in my driveway, engine running, it's still stealing and I'm still going to be pissed off and I'm still going to call the police.

Bad things happen when good people do nothing. Yes, there will always be people who morals and yours do not correspond, but remember there is morals and then there is law. Stealing (including copywrite stealing) is against the law. You can argue it is only a little law, a not very important law, but really people have used that reasoning on pretty much everything to avoid taking responsiblity for their action.

Having their images used in unapproved ways, bothers a lot of people on this site. If they are to appropriate judge the risk, they need to know when events like this occur, plus what actions could be taken to fix the situation. If you make the judgement call not to worry about your pictures useage, that is your choice. Please respect other people's choice and wish to make their choices an informed one.

and the maddening thing is - once on person steals your car, there's another car sitting there for the next one to steal! 5,000 different people could steal your car every day! Drive different directions into this vast internet making their getaway.

Isn't digital great?

I do care about our rights - I've been a freelance artist for a long time - it's been an issue in my life for a long time - since you were just a little guy David. I've just learned to pick my battles.

The internet is a big place - I don't have time to chase my own car thieves, especially when the car replicates and sits there waiting to be stolen again. Isn't it the damndest thing?

If you really think about it, and your going to chase every one of those theives, how will you ever sleep, eat, or live a normal life. Just expect it - live with it - fight the battle when it's big enough to matter to your personal bottom line - that's all I'm saying. Don't be mad. :-)

Like I said dude...you're wrong man...completely out of line because this isn't the thread for that. If you want to debate whether or not we should fight the battle, start a thread on it, dont hijack this existing one on a particular case itself.

Furthermore, I'm not wasting time by any means...or fighting a losing battle as you seem to think. It's a group effort. There are many photographers fighting this battle from the same side. There are plenty of other photographers standing idle on the sidelines not doing anything. Whatever I can do to protect our rights, I'm going to do it. If it means taking out one specific thief at one specific site at a time, then that's the way I'm going to do it.

lol...

and dont take my statement the wrong way...there's nothing wrong with standing idle on the sidelines... That's just what some people do. No one is *expected* to do anything. But to be one that stands by idle and also have a problem with those who do fight is beyond me.

Oh Great! Does this mean we'll have a Zedge Callenge? What's a Zedge any way?

No problem with those that fight here - merely suggesting that re-aligning your expectations might make life easier

I can agree with that. Fight on.
