I see people switching from Canon to Nikon all the time in the DPreview.com Nikon forums. Each camera/lenses/flash system has its highlights, and it would be silly to say that one is universally better than the other. |

That's not true! I've said publically in these boards that I'd marry my 30D if I could. :) |

I like em both.....:-D
I have a Canon G2 and liked their color renditions.
I always thought Nikon images were a tad bit flatter out of the camera due to their interpolations...but..the reality...if you shoot in Raw format (which anybody who has invested in thousands of dollars in cameras, lenses, computer software etc isnt is crazy) then you cannot tell the difference between Canon and Nikon.
Then, it comes down to how the camera physically works for you and I just prefer all the Nikon systems and over all design better.
Canon adds more chroma information to get the digital pop and less aliasing to appear sharper out of the camera. Nikon tones the highs down to keep from blowing highlights and keeps chroma noise low to look more like traditional film.
If I could combine my favorite things from both systems I would because there is no perfect system right now.
I shot the photo on the left at 1600 ISO and it is 99% right out of the camera and EXACTLY like the concert.I think it has low noise (noise is most obvious in shadow areas and this photo is almost all shadows) And the photo on the right was ISO 200
Manny shot this photo with his Nikon and I would say the colors are about as good as you can get
And this is one of Pedros great shots from his Nikon
Of course Alex and Larus have wonderful images from their Canons :-D
So....it comes down as always to YOU making the decision :-D

Anna
It depends on cost. Both systems have their pluses and minuses. I have a canon 350D - my choice was mainly based on the fact I already owned a canon SLR and had a couple of lens - but if money is tight I highly recommend the 350D. The main reason being that the 350D does give excellent value for money. They made quiet significant improvements over the 300D. A lot of what was in the 20D was put into the 350D - which made it an excellent buy for the time. A lot of people are critical of the size (they find it too small) but I think it is a personal thing. I personally do not have a problem with it - in fact both Pentax and Olmpus made a lot of mileage out of promoting their SLRs as the smallest you could buy.
If money was no option would I buy something different? Yes - I would buy a 30D, but it is $1000 more and I have a lot to learn yet to get the full value out of my 350D.
It is easy to get envious of the amount of gear some people own but as some have already stated YOU take the photos - not the gear. And of course anything you buy today will be half the price or superceeded tomorrow.
I know this doesn't help your decision but whatever you buy spend time on it to get the most out of it and also spend a lot of time learning photoshop. You are sure to get fantastic photos. |

With the Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG Macro for Canon it does fell small. I recently consider the grip more and more.

if choosing between D70 and 350XT then don't listen to all the hype. they are almost identical in quality, the only difference is how it feels to hold them, so go to some camerastore that has both models and get a side 2 side comparising, take the one that feels bettter in your hand, it's the one you'll be happier with :)

I completly agree with this, you must be comfortable with your camera in your hands and getting use to all the controls, my first SLR actually was a D70 then it broke and I got the Rebel XT both are damn good camera's and the small size does not bother me at all I actually love the small size. Only reason I went with the Rebel XT is cause I already had some older canon lens that I could use also cause I had access to other canon lenses at work (all they use at my job are canons)
If you want you can look at my website just click my sig below and most of all those are with my rebel xt.

The XT/350D most definitely has a mirror lock up. It's a function you have to enable in the "custom functions" section. |

Hi all!
Thanxs for advising me on D70s vs 350D.
I have successfully bought Canon 350D on Monday and am now a very proud owner and user.
I'll try to participate more often if not so busy.
