These are a few shots from my recent vacation to Oklahoma City and Arkansas that I thought I would share with all you butterfly hunters out there! Anyone know the name of the brown butterfly? (edit: forgot to mention that is a work in progress yet...sorry!)
Thanks in advance!
Julie

I'll research the 'flies. Wish I would have known you were coming to OKC. I could have scrounged the couple of other people on here from OKC.

The brown one is a White Peacock, I believe. The other is a Queen.

It sort of looks like it might be a ...nevermind.
You could always post it at bugguide.net for an ID.
Nice shots!
Edit: Nevermind. Looks like MK is right.

My time ended up being pretty thinly stretched while I was there. I forced the family out of bed at 6 AM so we could make it to the zoo while early. I WANTED my butterfly pictures!
I actually was lucky enough to meet Darlene Tompkins, aka dartompkins in DPC. We were in that area for a wedding and since the whole family was all dressed up, I just had to get a family photo. She was gracious enough to accept the challenge...and my crew present quite the challenge! :-)

The middle one is a monarch. The third picture is a black swallowtail.

Ahem...You may have to concede to mk too. Pretty sure the middle one is a Queen.
Interestingly, I was looking for these today because a collector friend wants some. |

I'll concede...but isn't the queen a monarch? I was pretty sure she wasn't a dictator or a public servant. ;)

The first one is a White Peacock. It is a butterfly, not a moth. I have it in my Audubon Society field guide to butterflies. The 2nd one is a Queen Butterfly. It belongs to the same family as the Monarch and the Viceroy.
The third one looks like it could be a Tiger Swallowtail.
