I've had more money than I thought I could spend several times in my life -

It always goes away.

I've been studying rich guys - when rich guy wants a car he develops a cash flow of some kind and buys the car with the cash flow - then when the car is paid for the cash flow still flows (for sake of argument).

That's my way of saying I'd buy 3 or four cash flows - probably property that I could rent/lease, self storage units, stuff like that

Might take my wife on a cruise with a fraction - but the rest is going to my future

My wife and I would move to Key West and never leave.

- Send my parents to a 'Prairie Home Companion' show

- set up a scholarship trust for geology students at my alma mater (New Mexico Tech)

- Set up a fund for cancer patients (make a wish-ish)

- Pay off the house with anything that may be left over

I've already scoped it out... and there's plenty of little pieces for $100K and you can get a brand new Kia out the door for less than $16,000 depending on the model, lol, who says I need a new one? In the car I have now, the gages don't work depending on the temperature outside and the air conditioning just quit.

Oh, and the land has no house, I forgot to clarify, I figure I'm living in the boat, so I can just build a house later, off of all that interest...

: )

I work cleaning Chryslers and Kias, and believe me, you don't want a Kia. The rotors go bad after a year and need to constantly replaced. Since the 100,000 Mile coverage only includes powertrain elements, that means that the brake are on you :-/

I'd invest some, pay off all current debt, put money aside for the kids for college, buy my dream home and furnish it, and maybe buy all the camera stuff I need for my business too! :)

If there's any left over... buying a nifty old warehouse building for a studio would be nice! :)

I've seen A Prairie Home Companion three times over the years. They travel all over the country and it's pretty cheap. I wouldn't wait for the million, do it for them now.

I'd buy a server and provide free hosting of photographs to all you cool dudes here. and with the remaining money I'd buy myself a nice camera and a new computer to do post-editing on.

I'm confused... is that an inside joke or saying that I'm not aware of?

Rose was the "original" name of a user who caused the site a few problems. She (I think it is a she, I could be wrong) was eventually banned, and came back under another username and immediately again started to cause problems. Saddly she/he caused enough problems that when anyone else is being a sh$t disturber, they are compared to a rose. The wise immediately change their ways.

:-)

a million dollars would pay off my debts and allow for a retirement fund. that's about it.
08/02/2006 12:30:22 PM · #67
A million, huh?

First thing I'd do is talk to a trusted financial person who would know way more than I do about taxes, investing and handling money.

For spending I would:

10% tithe to church and some other organizations.

Help a few family members who have some financial needs

Set up something that plans for my younger daughter's college and pay off the current student debt.

TRAVEL!!

A new home / decor / etc.

Probably would be pretty much spent by then :)

Pay off my bills
Buy a home with at least 10 acres
Buy a truck
Rescue at least 3 dogs and 3 cats from the local shelter/humane society
Save the piddly amouont that's left to help pay for the ridiculous property taxes my new place will no doubt have and dog/cat food.

I've already figured it out and I need to win 7.5 million (after taxes) at the very least to follow ALL of my dreams down to ever detail.

That said if I could win 50K, I'd be happy with that because I could buy some new photo equipment and pay off my bills and that'd be a wonderful new start.

interesting thread. In reality we'd have to pay of debts and put money away for college then give alot to the lee iacoca organization to help fund diabetes research. but in my fantasy world it would all go to diabetes research so that my daughters misconception that she's going to someday not have her disease anymore may someday come true. at 5 even after almost three years of diabetes we can still avoid most of the long term problems if a cure is found. to know she wont prematurely lose her life, her limbs, her eye sight etc. Would be worth way more than the million. guess i need to go by a lotto ticket.

$750,000 invest
$200,000 home
$10,000 camera equipment
$10,000 spend a month in Costa Rica
$10,000 pay off car & debt
$10,000 gift to my 6 year old niece
$10,000 checking account

With the little bit of interest and continuing to work as artist/photographer, I could live quite comfortably in this part of the world - continuing to do what I love. That is of course, until I hit the big-time with my work... :-)

really neat to see how every person values something different in their life.

I wonder how close we'd come to spending the money like we say we would if any of us really ever got it?

I know that in reality, I would probably spend a lot more of the part I want to invest on eating out, mmm, I would find the best dessert for sure... and I'm pretty sure it's not twinkies, lol

$400,000 for new Motorhome, $256,500 to payoff my plane and the rest go to Vegas and party like a Rock Star.

reading all these ideas sound great and take to much time, that is why i would still risk it all on red :), maybe i'll make more money and then gamble more and be richer, or maybe i'll go back to being the regular poor-joe i've always been (what difference would it make then). still, like some in here said "life is to shot". c'mon red.

I'd buy a LOT of beer, a big fridge and a house next to Jacko's.
