Arrgg, that sucks!

Reminds me to never buy Sony ever again.

Digital Camera DSC-P1 went back to Sony 5 times
Sony Playstation replaced two times
Sony big widescreen badasss TV just back from the repair center

These are the last three things I bought from Sony and they all had problems. No wait, there is a fourth, a Sony battery for the P1, replaced three times! :(

These guys have a serious design or quality control issue.

If the drive is just not booting you may be able to pull the files off with a boot disk. Take it to a Computer store one you trust knows what they are doing and have them recover this. or if you know where the files are stored on you HDD attempt recovery with a boot disk. They make a cable to connect the small HDDs found in most laptops to connect them to the regular IDE in a PC which would allow you if it still works to a point to access the data. Just not boot

You know the f'ed up thing they are going to say when you call? I'll tell you.

"Hmm... Hard drive huh? Well we can replace it. Ummm.. data.. umm.. we don't warenty the data on the drive, just the drive itself. But we do have data recovery stating at $150 per hour, but no gaurentee with that."

What is worse is that they will probably tell you that you dropped the notebook or something like that. "We will not replace the hd under warranty because our engineers have a suspicion that you hit your keys to hard." :)

Batting my head against a brick wall!! Back up! Back up ! Back up!
See my signature!!!!! For a few dollars a month you don't even have to do it yourself - it's automatic and external so completely safe and retrievable!

That's great news! When my Vaio died (after just 8 months old) I was told by the store I purchased it at that it would be 5-6 weeks to get it back. I told them that was unacceptable unless they had a loaner for me to use in the meanwhile. So, they just swapped it out with a brand new one within 3 days.

Not to harp but sony sounds like its having quality control issues. Lucky for me we don't do warranty repair on any sony computer products.

Sony doesnt allow the stores to do repairs on their laptops - they require them to be done in their factory. At least that is what I was told by the shop that I purchased mine through. They said they do repairs on most right there, expect for Sony who doesnt authorize it.
