Just found 2 HUGE webs in my garden, and 2 spiders like these. The webs are as strong as fishing line!! Got as close as I could while shaking...I don't do spiders very well!! Anyone know what they are?? 2 big fangs hanging from their head...YUK!YUK!YUK!

Yellow Orb Weavers maybe? I have had quite a few of these in gardens past. Great strong webs and they start flining them around when somethign comes near them. Cool spiders.

I think they are harmless, an elementary school science teacher came and took mine for classroom pets.

Black-and-Yellow Argiope

Yep!! Thanks Tim.

These guys are huge, and started running around crazy thru their web when they saw me and spinning more Zig-Zag like web!!

I see others beat me to it, but it's definitely a "Golden Orb Weaver" aka the other names above; here's a page on it: Golden Orb Weaver. Good spider, keep 'em around :-)

I know people who say they've been bitten (like a bee sting) because of running into these huge webs and getting the spider in their hair. I've done it many times but was never bitten. I love them and let them do their thing in my yard.

I would need serious therapy if I ever ran into one of those things...poisonous or not.

Spiders freak me out!

OK..now that I know what they are and "aren't", I'll keep them around. Interesting spider to watch. Their webs are so amazing. Thanks Bear!

I don't see too many of them around here, but there are a few every now and then. Keeping them around isn't hard, just let them be and they will build there web in the same place time and time again. If one builds it's web in an area you don't want just take it down and the spider will build the next one someplace else, nearby usually.

Had one that built its web between the lower branches of a tree and the ground. It did that day after day, until the web was taken down while mowing -- the spider just moved higher in the tree.

It's been so long that I don't remember, but these are the spiders that will shake their webs if someone gets too close aren't they?
