How does one get flash off of glasses? I have the following programs:
MS Digital Image Pro
The Gimp
Inkscape
Arcsoft
Please any advice (other than to not have it in the first place) would be greatfully accepted!!

In DIP I will mask both lenses of the glasses to new layer (ctrl+d)
Then the Clone Brush to get rid of the no detail (white) spaces
Then depending how tough the clone job was may apply some Degaussian blur to the lens level. Blending brush works well too.
Sometimes I will clean it up even more by using the emphasize filter (darken). Select bottom object... Effects > Emphasize > Darken will make the top object (lenses) darker. Then I will apply Effects > Transparency to the top Object to about 45-50% to allow some of the bottom lenses to show through.

Eyeglasses are tough, and the method awpollard suggested will work well.
For things like bottles or stemware, I just use the blend brush in DIP. It's pretty simple to use and can be done more quickly.

Very difficult to remove via post-processing. Better to not catch reflections to start with, have someone with glasses raise the arms a bit behind their ears so that the glasses are slightly angled down. Then you can easily avoid flash reflections.

Yes, it's best to avoid the problem to start with. Glasses flare is one of the hardest things to correct in PP.
Other than Cindi's suggestion, the very best thing is to have glasses available with no lenses.

Depending on the pose. You can possible copy one eye and reverse it to take out the highlight.
