I need to get a new editing program, and I cant really afford CS2 or even CS1, but if I absolutely need to I can borrow the money to purchase it.
My question is, I know PSPx isnt CS2, but is it close? Can I run it on a mac? Is it worth buying it? Whats the learning curve on it?

| I just got a code for pspx (the editing program, not the painting program). You can buy it for $59. Do you want the link? It's only good for 3 days. |

Thanks, but I dont have the ability to buy things online (no CC card at all, not even a bank card).

And I tried gimp, and I didnt likethat much.

| PSP X can not be run on a Mac .. I've already checked. I purchased it for my pc, switched to Mac and can't use it, went to the website and they do not make it for Mac. Sorry :( |

First question answered - no, it won't run on a Mac. In case this isn't the end of the story, here's some more answers for you. :) (possibly irrelevant, but I'm here, so I'll answer...)
1) Is it close to CS2? Close, yeah. As good, no. Probably not as well supported in terms of 3rd party plugins, but it does a lot of good stuff, including layer editing, dodging, burning, noise removal, lots of powerful adjustment controls.
2) Is it worth buying? If the price difference is no issue, get PhotoShop. Otherwise, for the price, PSP is certainly worth it, and far ahead of many other cheap editing programs.
3) What's the learning curve. Depends on the user really. I had a very slow introduction over years. I don't think it's harder than Photoshop to use. I'm used to PSP, and I find Photoshop hard to use. People who are used to Photoshop will take a bit of getting used to PSP. Photoshop has more books published on how to use it, but there are books on PSP as well.

| I recently went shopping. Had it narrowed down to PSPX and Elements 4.0. Went with 4.0 because I felt I could do more with it. Which I can. I actually am using 3 programs right now to edit since I too can't afford CS2. I'm using GIMP for windows, jasc psp8, and Elements 4.0. |

I may be wrong on this but I think that PSPx will take all plugins that work for photoshop. Every one I've tried has worked fine. This may also apply to the GIMP.

I haven't found a plugin that didn't work (not to say there isn't one somewhere out there).
Isn't there some emulation software that lets you run windows apps under OS X? May be more trouble that what it's worth, and if you're going to stay Mac, you should migrate to something native...but in the meantime...may be worth investigating. |

Well, I couldn't get any of the plug-in's from this site to work using PSPx: Downloads
Tried the Dragan, Gothic Glow, and Grunge Effect - all with no luck. |

Those are actions, not plugins.
Plugins are basically, externally called programs. Actions are basically scripts using the build-in functions of PS.
PSP has it's own scripts / language. |
