Can anyone help me figure out what type of plant/grass this is? or point me in the direction of a good website... I'm having trouble finding a good one to use for identifying this, I'm not even sure it's grass

lol, all I know is that these are what we used to shoot at each other as kids... that was a fun trick to learn

Thank you, Amanda

It looks more like a 'weed' to me. That doesn't look like a typical grass flower that I'm aware of. Do you have other pictures and how tall it is?

uhm, no other pictures.. these grow all over california, and yeah, I'm pretty sure it's a weed.

they usually grow about a foot or two tall. I know they start out really green and small and then get dried up like this one.

Also, don't know if the perspective is skewed or not, but the seedhead is only about 2 inches

Common plantain, Plantago major, I'm pretty sure. Definitely a plantain, though :D

eta; The leaves grow in a circle at ground level, none on stem, leaves are fairly leathery and have ridges? Also ridges on the stem?

I think so.. thanx, I'll look that up, just trying to keyword, and was thinking that just saying "grass" or something probably wouldn't really do much good

appreciated BeeCee

It would be helpful to have a description of the leaves. You said 'plant/grass' Do the leaves look like a grass, long and slender with parallel veins? If so, then it isn't plantain. If the leaves are grasslike, it could be some type of millet.

Don't know but I wouldn't smoke it.

folk remedy warning
If you are allergic to gnat bites, like I am, you can pick the leaves off a plantain and rub it on the gnat bite to relieve itching and swelling.
