Hi everyone,

The City Council in Bristol, where I live, is planning on building offices and shops over one of the nicest park areas of the city. The area is where I took the following photos, amongst many others that I don't have online:

Its a really nice place to just go and sit, have a picnic, or whatever, and although most people on this website do not live in Brisol, I'm sure we are all aware of the value of places like this in the middle of busy cities.

Myself, and the residents and workers of Bristol, would really appreciate your support by signing the petition at the bottom of the page.

SAVE CASTLE PARK

Bumps to this thread every now and again would also be really appreciated!

Thanks!

What petition at the bottom of what page? It does not seem to present itself...

I hope you can save your park. We were unsuccessful in saving our wildlife bluffs from Olympic highway expansion. While the world "enjoys" my city in 2010, we will be mourning the loss of eagle habitats and gorgeous natural bluffs which had to give way so it would take 1.5hrs instead of 2hrs to get to Whistler from Vancouver, BC.

signed it, While they may not make as much money as a fancy new office building, our city parks are important places for everyone.

Thanks for the support so far everyone! Lauria and Pam, the 3xxx numbers are just the page counts, you need to scroll to the bottom and fill in your name to actually sign the petition.

Pam, sorry about the highway expansion going ahead! It's always so sad to lose such great natural places :(

I think the 35##s are visitor numbers, not the number you get when signing the petition.

Not to put a downer on this but will city council really take notice of a petition signed by people who don't live in the UK, never mind Bristol?

You don't have to live somewhere to appreciate it! Plus I wouldn't think they'd look at each individual name and check where the person lives :)

As a prospective tourist to Bristol I would be less inclined to visit if there were less parks; my monies would be spent in neighboring cities that had parks.

Worst case scenario: Bristol's economy would slowly go down until, finally, the town would be abandonded. All because a park was demolished.

The point is, the petition would carry much more weight if it were the people of Bristol signing the petition to stand up for their green space. Especially if it is a neighbourhood park and not a park tourists would likely visit.

So Ben, I hope you're canvassing the neighbourhood as well as getting the international community to sign. ;o)
