thanks a lot guys!!
should I use my canon 50 mm, or my Tamron 28-75 mm?

use both, see how you feel is the best one...i used my 50mm on my nephew, only because i wanted closeup shots, ( being inside my house and all, i didn't want all my furniture showing up)

I take pictures of small children every week and let me tell you it is HELL sometimes! They HAVE to be comfortable with you. I get the best shots after the first 30 minutes or so after they get used to me and the camera. I photographed this one wild child at a national park and man was it work! He had way to much room to run around. I was exhausted!
