I was wondering how many DPCer's have had a Gallery Show and how did the experience go? What has been your experience? Good? Bad?
I currently have a month long showing at the Regional Library in Weston, FL and was thrilled not only to have my show listed in the monthly library magazine but in I found my show listed in one of the major papers local section on Sunday! This is my second show - both have been at libraries because I wanted to try this route first and second: if you make a sale you do not have to share a percentage of the cut with a gallery. As with any gallery show is is nerve wracking to get them ready for show and at least with my two showings hanging the pictures was also nervewracking (getting them 'seated right on the hooks and such).
My first show yielded no sales from the framed pieces but then my contact information was not out there on the wall - one had to go to the libary services desk to ask for a business card. That is one mistake I am not making with this second show - business cards and a plaque with information about the artist is hanging right along side the gallery showing. |

I'm doing a library show, too. Have about 32 pictures up for a month. Great learning experience. |

I've had work in three open exhibitions, ribboned in two, and nothing has ever sold. Generally the gallery takes 50%, so I just adjust my asking price accordingly since my asking price is already fairly low thanks to a good relationship with a friend in the framing business.

Just this morning I've taken down my images from a show (ran it's months course) 3 of the 50 works were mine ..
Very good experiance & good to do before the solo show next winter (details details details)
very out of the way gallery - nothing was sold over the course of the show
it was a city run gallery -- so they don't take a cut ..
had very good comments in the guest book .. ;)
