No comments again, what a suprise! Haha. Wish I had a higher score, because I think my picture is really neat, but I think its low becuase people are thinking it doesn't fit the challenge enough... oh well. Still hoping for some more comments! |

LOL, I'm starting to regret submitting a photo to this competition. This is one of my worst ever showings so far. Pity, because I quite liked the photo I submitted. Oh well, what can you do, eh? :D

Oh no - I've been given a 1 and two 2's - need a "withdraw from challenge because I can't take the scores" button :) |

Had a horrible start that I cannot figure out for the life of me. Finally got out of the 4's and all the way up to 5.9, then slipped to my current score of 5.7973

Been falling like a rock all day. Going from being sure I had a 6+ image when I submitted to hoping it stays above a 5.

based on these stats, one can guess that I am sitting on a pretty but not very interesting shot. Which is exactly true :)

Had been at 6.18 for a while, took a huge dive over night, too. Still NO comments. What's going on? |

I am rather disappointed. I was really expecting better. And I don't even have one comment to give some explanation of why it is scoring so low. :-(! |

Very confused about this one. I had expected mid 5's. Not a terribly interesting shot, but technically well done (or so I thought).

It could be argued that everything is in motion, because the earth is rotateing etc., and therefore nothing is stationary; and it could also be argued that by using a very small fraction of a second for our exposure time that we are able to stop even the swiftest of motion so that everything is stationary. In my voting I am using a definition of stationary similar to the second choice of those offered in dahkota's quote from a dictionary. To me, to meet the challenge a shot must depict something that does not move, ever, in relation to it's surroundings; not something that can, and normally does, move but is still at the instant the shutter snapped. To do otherwise renders the description useless, and to interpret that as the intended is too ridiculous to contemplate. Sorry if this does not fit with your thinking.

Even if I don't agree I applaud your conviction.
On another note, since my mind is always moving the world is stationary relative to me. Everything is fair game... |

Without arguing semantics too much, I agree with the idea that something that is clearly immovable is likely to get a higher vote than something that can move but is at rest. Argue technicalities and interpretations all you like, but complete immobility is simply a stronger visual projection of the theme than something capable of motion, regardless of its current state.
