After a very disappointing entry in "Motion Blur" I can see it does have problems, but could I have actually made it better, just kept one without the blur for myself, or throw them in the trash? Comments in the entry (call it A) were that it needed more contrast, had colors that were off (I did play with the color balance, so the blue tinge was intentional) and it didn't show motion blur.

For the record, this was the unprocessed (other than identical crop) image. Call it
B
Increasing the contrast and removing most of the color shift (the original had shift caused by the Tiffen CP filter). Would you have scored this better?
C
Finally, another image with a much shorter exposure for no motion blur. It's sharper. Maybe it's better?

I'm on the laptop, so the color is a tad off for me anyway. There does appear to be a smidge much blue in the original. I do like the bumped contrast.

Mind you, I'm on a junk monitor. :) I think it's a case of the motion blur wasn't strong enough in any of the shots in context of other shots in the challenge. Pretty shot regardless. :)

I prefer the last one, with no motion blur...not specifically because of the lack of blur, which is not really an issue for me...but because the lighthouse in the background is in sharp focus and the light at the top of it adds interest...it adds a focal point to draw your eye through the image. Without the light, my eyes tend to wander all over but never really settle on anything. The person in the foreground, the water in the middle, and the flowing background with the lighthouse and the light make several planes of view and add visual interest. At least that's my opinion, FWIW. ;)

Yes, the lighthouse lamp was a problem -- to make it appear in the time exposure would have been difficult, but if I gave it thought at the time I could have done it.

I do think that the clarity of D rates it as better than the mistyness (which could be thought of as fuzzyness) of A/B/C.

Anyway, it was an experiment that I decided to enter in the contest since it was motion blur.

my favorite is "c". :) the first two... well, the color's just really faded... and the last one, i just don't like the look of the hills in the background. the blue and the green in the 3rd one is nice, and i like the child looking in the sand on the beach. the blur adds a dreamy feel to it. :)
