If any of your own photo's have been published how did you go about it. Where was it published and what type of photo was it. Did somone approach you for your work or did you approach someone and they accepted. Was it payed work?
Just curious as to how most people go about it. |

Hi. I have had heaps published. I have lost count. I have had images both inside of magazines as well as covers and also front page colour photo on the second largest newspaper in Australia.
There are many others...including a billboard.
Usually they approach me.

I've had about 10 photos published by local papers in both Wisconsin and New Hampshire. Usually I e-mail them along with a short story directly to the photo department. My current local paper doesn't byline anyone except staff photographers (but they just canned them all so that may change). |

our local paper has a weekly edition where they print an amature photograph each week as well as having it on the opening Regional web page. |

They came to me from hits off of my lighthouse website:
I've had a few more emails recently with people wanting to use a few of my lighthouse photos in brochures & vacation magazines.
I've also had a few photos published in Lighthouse Digest magazine of my local lighthouse sorrounded by snow after a blizzard and water after a hurricane. The snow, I was asked for (after it was seen on the web), the hurricane, I said "Hey, I've got these pictures...".
Also have a shot on this year's County Emergency Services calendar. It's distributed to every household in the county.

Twice in the newspaper this year, with byline credits. Once was for article about my wildlife photography, and last week for an article about the Toledo Celtics RFC finishing 3rd in the National Championship. Also had some thumbnail size photos published in three state sponsored wildlife habitat brochures.
Recently sent a link of my wildlife photos taken in Ohio State Parks to the Ohio State Parks department and they seemed pretty excited about the photos. They were going to forward the link to their publications department for possible inclusion in brochures and programs. |

I've got one being published. An ad agency in NY contacted Langdon about one of my pics on dpc, and he forwarded it to me.
They are using on the web page and in a brochure. |

If this can count as being published - got a request from a non-profit outfit recently to use a couple of my monkey shots. They had found my shots on DPC. It just went online last week. I gave them permission to use as it was for a good cause and they gave me credit as a photo contributor. Here's the site if anyone's interested. The middle one on the front is mine and so is the main photo under the "species" section.

I have a few in use on different websites, a few that have been in our local newspaper, a phone book cover, and various events I've shot have my full gallery links available from whatever non-profit organization was sponsoring the events. I haven't made any money yet, but it's nice to have people contact you to ask if they can use your image(s) anyway. Every time I've been contacted by someone...I haven't gone to "them" yet.
