Newly announced Samsung models...
all sporting that flat rectangular body with a lens that seem out of place. Very similar to the panasonic model...
Like it? Hate it?

The Panasonic models had an excuse in that they were patterned after older Leica models to emphasize their heritage.

| That particular model isn't a trend issue, it's an optics issue. :) 10x zoom lens has got to have room to move back and forth. The interesting thing is this is a 10x camera with a much smaller body than the usual. It may end up hitting the market it just the right spot. |

It comes to that very cliche question...
Does look matter to you or quality?
I've been asked that question many times... I end-up lonely all the time LOL. You can only guess what I prefered...
Anyway, I think it's time to change... It depends on the quality of the photos coming out of this thing... even looks a little boxy, it wouldn't matter (I think) |

It may be butt ugly to our taste... well, actually, I'd say it's retro, but not necessarily *that* ugly.
Anyhow, ugly, or at least unusual, is prolly what they are going for. There are a whole slew of folks who will buy something just *because* it doesn't conform. Think Scion Xb. Think Honda Element. Digital cameras are now getting to the point where in order for the manufacturers to differentiate themselves in the market, style is an important design consideration. It's not just tech anymore! |

It's not the equipment that matters.
It's your eye that does.

What it looks like has no bearing on my opinion. Who wouldn't like a lighter less bulky camera that delivered dslr results? I sure would.

One of the concerns I'd have is this appears to be one of those new-fangled "no viewfinder" models, where all composition must be done using the LCD.
This requires the camera to be held out in front to shoot -- not the steadiest position -- and it will probably eat batteries like crazy. |

When I saw it I thought, wow, then I started pressing F5 like 1000 times on BHPhoto.com
Nothing new there so far, I want this camera, I want to buy this camera even though the specs don't convince me.
I just simply like it. |

If this is the NV7 (and it looks like it) that's a 7x zoom (38-270 equiv), not a 10x. Built in optical stabilization too...

Maybe some of the dpc'ers that feel it is more important to "think outside the box" than it is to meet a challenge's topic would be interested in it.

It's the same with buying a car. You buy it for how pretty it looks, not how it performs. ;o) |

I actually like how it looks!
The "standard" SLR look is too plasticky and smooth. It's a fricking camera, not a car. It doesn't need to be "aerodynamic"! |

No, but it needs to be ergonomic. If you need to be holding it at arm's-length in bright sunlight to compose a picture, the light weight will work against you and it will need every bit of that image-stabilization ...
I don't have a "big" camera -- I went for something in-between (with image-stabilization!). |

Well yeah, not having a viewfinder is clearly a bad thing, but that has nothing to do with the "looks" of the camera that people complain about.
OTOH my camera has a tiny viewfinder that's pretty much completely unusable and just wastes space, and I'd rather have no viewfinder at all than one like mine... |

It looks like the offspring of an SLR and a point shoot.
That may be a good thing, as it could help introduce those point
and shoot post it on myspace type camera owners to take a broader
knowledge of things.
No viewfinder is no good, but even if it had one, where would it fit?
The thing is, I find a lot of people I know who have cameras to do things
like buy battery grips more to Ad to the Bulk of the camera, the enhanced battery life becoming a nice plus.
It looks like just a prototype thinger, I don't like it...yet. |

We've got an Asahi Pentax Spotmatic, fantastic camera. The 55mm 1.8 lens is also awesome. Looks and feels like a real camera, unlike my digital. |

Same rule applies. :) You can't get much more than a 4x in a conventional PS camera without having the lens assembly protrude or the camera body be larger. :) |

It's not a prototype, it's coming out very soon!
I got the pics while browsing DCResource for cameras. |
