I'd take it to court. Research the following. Genesis 2 radar units and really look into in. I believe they have a 5 degree band and if there is someone close enough to you it cannot hit just your car. How far was the cop to you and other cars if applicable??? When was the unit last calibrated??? etc. The Genesis 2 is the most comonly used radar unit by police forces everywhere but you hould be able to get which actually unit and when it was calibrated last (and how it was calibrated) from the local police department. This information falls under the public information act and they are required to provide it to you (may be a small cost involved $10). I'd fight it just in the hopes of having it reduced.
But in court, DO NOT PISS OFF THE JUDGE. Cuz I can speak from experience that once he gets pissed off your done. |

That's not true. They are illegal in SOME places. They are legal in many more places than not. |

These guys have an interesting approach to speeding.
//www.gumball144.com
From memory, they recommend obtaining a radar detector that tells you the direction of the radar signal: if it is from behind, or from the side, you need to speed up in order to outrun the trap...
However, some of the other methods used (getting a country to relax its speed restrictions for you for the day) would be effective, if less practical solutions to your dilemma.

Ya think those highly trained officers haven't seen that stunt before? Believe me, they are watching your every move at that point to insure you aren't trying to run or reach for a gun. Pulling that detector down is a real bozo move, IMO. |

There was no U bend, the cop was just sitting at a Uturn from the other side of the road where he could pull me over. The worst part is, i was going with the flow of traffic.
If other vehicles were very close to you there is no way the officer could accurately tell one vehicle from another using radar. A good lawyer probably could get you off if you have the right evidence. |

I had a cop give me 3 speeding tickets in a month when I was a stupid teen - the third time he admitted he kept stopping me - even for one mile over the speed limit - because he'd seen my radar detector when he'd stopped me the first time. I took it out of the car and haven't carried one since! |

This has already been stated.
I also stated later in the thread I was thinking of jammers, not detectors, and it has also been stated that detectors are illegal in most of Canada which is where I live, so techinically, jammers are illegal in most places where I live

I know this has already been stated. I read the rest of the thread, too. No intention here to be offensive. I simply chose to respond before reading the entire thread so that I wouldn't have to search to find your post later. You posted incorrect information; I simply felt it was necessary to set the record straight. |

I will stick my neck out a bit on this one since I am not an American, but I do believe that the use of radar detectors is legal in 49 of the states, but only in instances where they are installed in non-commercial vehicles.
As for Canada, I would not recommend you leave them in your vehicles as their presence in a vehicle in most provinces is illegal, and they are subject to seizure and a fine.

As a rule of thumb, ya know, if you HAVE to speed, if you stay within 5 MPH over the speedlimit, you'll be ok.
As for the two cars leave the same spot, ones traveling 80mph and the other 68mph...
Well, the difference in RPMs in these two speeds are at most about 1000, which if you are travelling at about 70MPH, you should be doing around 2000-2500 RPMs, thus having your car the most efficient in gas mileage. 80 MPH might have you at 3000, not much a difference. 20 minutes isnt that mucha time difference either, so why people speed, atleast doing 20mph over the limit (which IS RECKLESS, regardless how straight you were going) is beyond me.
Slow down, save a life, if its not someone elses, it'll definitely be your own.
