I'm so used to jasc psp8 that it's a whole new ballgame for me. Any pointers or tips for starting out?
Like in psp8 there was a "clarify" tool- love that. Is there something similar in elements that I'm not seeing? |

I'm not at all familiar with PSP or that tool, but from your one-word description I'd say try this trick with the UnSharp Mask filter: use a very low amount, a high diameter, and zero threshold. Try starting with these numbers on a flatly-lit landscape:
Amt: 15%
Dia: 50

| Describing what clarify does would help translate it to a PS tool. |

shoot, I'm not sure how to describe it lol. I can give an example?
I think it brings out the details more and you can adjust it to how much you want to bring out- brings out shadows and shading maybe? That's the best way I can describe it.
Here's an example
that's the original straight out of the camera
this was after cropping and clarifying
I don't know if you can really tell the difference or not because I only set the clarify at 2. I really want to learn how to do all these things WITHOUT the preset stuff. |

| Use the Clarify command to give your images a crisp, focused look so objects stand out. This command adds a sense of depth and clarity to the image. It can make hazy, foggy, or slightly out of focus images look clearer. |

thanks banmorn, a much better description then I could give lol.
So what do you do in elements to do that?
Been fiddling a bit and have already found it does FAR more then my PSP8 was capable of. |

| Try the automatic color correction and see if that gives you the same results. Just a thought.Its under enhance on the top of your photoshop page. |
