So I entered in an image and won today. But... umm should I care? I don't quite get it, why am I even entering there when "everyone's a winner"???
So you can see my image here in the weddings catergory. Does everyone really win at some point? |

Seriously, I've wondered the same thing. Even their motto is "everyone is a winner" so where is the challenge in that? I don't get it.
(mind you, I've never looked at their site in depth)
Edit to mention: I actually enjoy competing against people who regularly whip my ass and send me crying home to mommy!

I see another of our members on that page, too!
I had to doublecheck to make sure it really WAS him entering it.
Well, congrats to both of you? :) |

Perhaps it will not be as easy to win at DailyAwards if the site's membership grows a lot. In that case maybe some people will look back and wish they had built up their "weight" before the competition got tougher. Who knows?

Oh, oops, should have looked at the "about" page. That's kinda cool.
I'd love it if Jutilda's vote meant 50 points instead of 1, ;-D

Maybe if you win they'll display your picture in Las Vegas and you can buy a book with your picture in it... D'OH!

What size should the submissions be, and are there time restrictions on when the photo is taken? |

I feel like this has all been done before, I hate deja vu. Creepy.

No restrictions on when taken, size is same as our challenges, max 640, but no limit on file size so don't compress.

I think I figured that page out. You can enter your photos. I think 10 is the limit. They get voted on randomly by "anyone" who is signed up. There are many photo categories such as Macro, Portrait, etc...
...there are two types of "winners" a signature and "category"...don't confuse the "category"..
After you vote on 200 shots you aquire a higher voter "weight" after you win one or more daily shots your "weight" increases. You become a more "powerful" voter.
So...say you have a shot of a spider in "macro" and enter it tomorrow morning. People will vote on it. It gets a "signature" rating (the score that you get with the "heavy weight" voter) and a regular "category" score. This is the score that a member with no wins or "experience" gives you.
Each day a shot is awarded in each category a sig or a category award. It is awarded to the "high" vote getter of that day in each category. Your shot cannot win more than once as a daily sig or catergory winner...but it MAY NEVER WIN...there are many crappy shots in there!
Also...each day the top vote getter or score getter of ALL THE CATEGORIES will win an OVERALL daily award...weekly award....monthly award and a yearly...
...got it yet???
You can also enter shots ...see how they are doing...and if they are not doing well, you can take them out...your overall score ( the score that all of your shots) will change as you take out a "bad" one...
I've won several dailys in macro...but I put just about my best shots of my life in there!
It's pretty fun if you fish around the site and learn how it works...
Hope this clears things up!
Kenny

Harvey....the weight thing is a two edge sword. It has made some difference in the way I was voting....which is now not at all. I am the only one with the weight right now and I feel liked a marked man. I refuse to be hounded for comments should I vote a picture what I feel it deserves and if I do I feel like my stuff gets bash in returned. Get on the home page few times and BAM....perhaps its paranoia. I waiting for some other people to get the same weight before I vote again and I can vote for a bit but stop short of the next level and have to wait again. Richard Hahn (hahn23 here) has a weight of 50 now and you see a definite vote swing if he votes on one of your images....and he's voted for over 10,000 (wow!).

..You would hope that after aquiring a rating of 50+ the member would vote fairly !

...and another thing...
While it may not seem as "fair" as DPC, the site is fun. I feel better about it if I "don't compare it to DPC" but use it as it is.
It is another place in which to show your images off to others...

I can understand your position, it's entirely rational.
kenskid - I don't think there is any reason to think that Robert would not vote totally fairly, but I also think that he may be in a position where he is going to be taking a beating no matter how he votes. Imagine that at dpc you had roughly 5 times as much voting power as anyone else, and everybody could figure out how you voted. I think you would be the target of much venting, lol.
Hopefully, the rough edges of the system at DA will be worked out in time. The admin does seem to be pretty active in making changes to improve the site.
