LDS weddings must be nice to shoot as there isn't any pressure to get the shots during the ceremony that you just can't mess up on...

Usually. :-)

This one had a ring ceremony afterwards ... with a procession coming in, a bishop who gave some advice, exchanging of the rings etc. This one is right at the point where they are exchanging rings:

During the procession I had to change cameras because my flash stopped working on the 20D. Must have been loose. The viewfinder didn't even show that the flash was turned on.

Great job, David! I LOVE the doorway shot with the groom! You have a great sense of humor with weddings that I aboslutely adore and try to have as well. Too often they are far too serious.

Uh, help the ignorant. What's LDS?

The official name is "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints", also known as the "Mormons". LDS is an abbreviation for Latter-day Saints.

One of their (I should say our) beliefs is in an "eternal marriage", wherein the man and wife are sealed for time and all eternity and not just until "death do us part". These sealings take place inside of sacred temples, where not everyone can enter (only those who are striving to live worthy lives by keeping the commandments, etc). Since not everyone can enter, this couple choose to have a ring ceremony after the wedding so that those who could not attend the sealing (wedding) could still participate.

Thank you for the explanation!

When ya travel all the way from Australia to Utah ... just to get married ... I think you're allowed to do whatever you want. lol

The temple always amazes me. Some beautiful shots and I know you had nothing to do with it lol, but the colors of the bridesmaid dresses are so fresh and summery. I get tired of seeing the typical pinks, and lavanders, ect.
You do beautiful work!

I *loved* those colors!!! I really wish we had had more time to "explore possibilities" with various settings with them. I like what I got, but there was potential for so much more.

Thanks for your comments.

Since I've had two comments/questions on the "even lighting" in the images, I thought I'd answer the question here:

--------------

Actually, except for the indoor portraits (shot with studio strobes) the lighting really wasn't that even. The secret is shooting in RAW format and adjusting the exposure during the raw-to-jpeg conversion.

None of these images have been edited yet, so all of the adjustments are done quickly through a program called RawShooter Premium (visit www.pixmantec.com for more info). Then I post these as "proofs" for the customer.

I'll do whatever edits are necessary after they select the photos they want printed (and even then, I will generally only edit enlargements, as the 4x6's generally print pretty good right out of the raw conversion stage).

Great photos mate, and you have done yourself proud..... I left you a comment on my favorite.....

I bet they will all "love" the results, and find it hard to choose which ones.....

I find it hard enough to choose which photos to post as proofs. I tend to err on the side of posting too many "just in case" they want a slightly different angle or expression.

I was watching another (local) photographer's website recently. And where he posted 32 "proofs" for the bridals he shot, I posted about 150. And I had to wonder... should I be more selective? Or should am I doing good by giving the customer so many options? (for 150 proofs to be shown, I, and my son, had shot over 400 images to choose from)

I'm gonna wager that more is better. But then I'm not a wedding photographer so what do I know? Still, I think giving the customer a variety to choose from is a good thing, and when all the pictures are as good as the ones you posted, why not poast them all? Very nice!

I know you have not edited these but you may want to display only the best photographs as proofs - if you have photographs of a half of a child showing or a foot cut off, you may want to exclude these.

Yeah, good point. I do try to be selective. I don't think I've ever posted more than 50% of what I've taken... usually more along the lines of 25-30%.

My procedure is usually as follows (all of this done in RSP):

1) I go through and flag the images I like (put a 1 flag on them). And mark for deletion that is technically bad - out of focus, cut off heads, etc (the kind of stuff where I definitely don't want to spend another second looking at the image).

2) Then I do a quick application to all of the #1 flagged images of some 'general' settings that make all of the images look decent (i.e. slight sharpening and contrast adjustments).

3) Then I go thru the #1's and adjust exposure / white balance (often I copy settings from one image to another in a series to save time) and set an appropriate crop. I may switch some of my #1's to #2's at this point - so I'm not throwing them away, they just aren't my 'first string'. While I'm doing this, I'm telling RSP to process each of these.

4) Finally, I review the processed image and delete anything that isn't as good as I expected it to be. RSP gains some of its speed by not showing the image exactly as it will appear. So the final judgement comes at the jpeg stage.

5) Then I remove any that I still don't feel are compelling enough to post and upload the rest.

Great stuff. Poses and lighting look very nice! I especially like the use of the pool/fountain.
