I would manage the limitation. Everyone in my favor would be allowed to enter. Cross me and you're out. |
Have I crossed you? I hope not! :D |
You're in! |

yeah, but how do we control who gets into the 300 entries?
if say we use a first come first serve basis, then people would just submit a "booking" photo and later change it with the real thing. Unless of course, we also disable any further changes after a submission - now that's a real challenge! Interesting suggestion. |
Which would just mean a lower grade of entries as people rushed to make sure they got in. |

Hmmm...
If there are more then 300 submission, rest could be voted after the first 300 is done. Since photos already submitted during requested time limit, those photos will be counted on time even they voted week after they are taken... and that challenge could be called "overflow", no new entries allowed, and needs to be voted in two days instead of week after first 300 voted.
Just making things up here as I go :P |

Pondering here...
The members only challenges... ok, why don't we have a lower league and upper league, meaning, challenge in one subject, and two entries, one for who those have ribbons, and one for those who don't have any ribbons.
So, if there is a "Green V" challenge, "Green V for ribbon winners" and Green V for none ribbon winners (whatever that means)"
This encourages people to win ribbon little bit more.
My brain fired now... I think I am done for tonight :P

How do you encourge someone to win more ribbons? Most of us are here to learn by competing. You can encourage someone to win ribbons all you want, but if they're not a photog that submits DPV voter-happy pictures, or if they are someone new to the realm of photography, or any number of reasons, encouraging them to 'win ribbons' doesn't make much sense
Edit for clarification

As I said... Brain fried...
But, I am sure there will be a solution before it gets out of control :D I hate to spend the whole week just trying to vote... or give up :/

I noticed you are relatively new. This site has a lot to offer! Maybe we should all just benefit from the wealth of information that is available to us, as is

My 30 second shot has an excellent chance of getting a ribbon. Brown. But it is kinda cool. Still, I think I'll stick with the middle-of-the-road boken shot just the same.
OH! And JP, what was the PayPal address again??

I think a better way to "split" the requirements would be based on the "average score" of that person after 10 challenge entries - that usually makes a fair gauge for the photographer. |

I do respect other people here who are more time spent than I have, but giving ideas and thinking future in any case and anywhere shouldn't be limited to rank.
Ok... I just thought it was worth to ponder about it, since I did read lots of complaints about the challenge number in my short life here...
Not a big deal... I'll just watch :) |

So are there any P&S cameras that have 30 second exposure capabilities? or is 30 second solely a DSLR challenge? |
My ex-camera had bulb. Now I can only go 10 or 12 seconds (can't remember which one... just know it's not 30)! Sigh. |

my 2 cents... i have an awful average, but one day, if it kills me, i'm going to get a ribbon with that perfect shot. i want to compete against the superstars on this site. it makes me want to be better and pushes me further. |

Try to work on the average score too - it's about consistency, at times.
We might have our luckier days and strike a lottery, but trying to keep it at that level is another thing altogether...sigh |

Wow...I predicted 433...and there are 432 entries. I hope my score prediction of 7.8 is as close as this. Wouldn't it be nice?
